brain damage??? I smoked marijuana?

Please help me!! :-( I'm in living hell!! So 5 months ago, I smoked a marijuana joint for the first time. I freaked out, uncontrollably. It was so distressing. The complete opposite of euphoria. I perceived I was Dying. I starting praying to my maker and stuff. I then went to sleep for like 2 hours. I got back up, and although i was sober, i still felt weird. I guess the best way to describe this feeling is, being 100 percent sober but at the same time you feel drugged? Later that day I figured I just needed rest and then by morning all the feelings would subside. Unfortunately this did not occur. The feeling persisted. I was so haunted by it all. Miraculously I've made it through then to now and let me tell you, I am not doing that great. The anxiety is more persistent as I fear this very moment, that I have acquired brain damage and all along, I was oblivious to this fact. I have this notion that my joint was laced with some chemical :( could this all be anxiety/ocd? Because I just can't bury these fears, and get on with my life! 24/7 I'm thinking how I feel? how am I thinking? Is my brain working as sufficient as every else? I just can't refrain from thinking I have brain damage. This is my biggest fear, and the thing is, I just feel so convinced. Can anxiety make you feel convinced about an irrational fear? It feels so real. Everyday, I'm spaced out, feeling like I'm drugged, extremely fatigued, (BRAIN FOG). My concentration isn't as sharp. This could all be anxiety related because I'm so scared about having brain damage. And also, these are all classic symptoms of anxiety. I still play piano like i used to. I still write songs like I used to.. Please tell me I don't have brain damage. How could I get an accurate test for brain damage? Could laced weed do this? How do I get tested to put my mind to ease? Remember 5 months have past.

Update:

It was marijuana.. I looked at it carefully. I scrutinized it! Remember, I always had anxiety.. So this could be an underlying problem. All am saying is. What if the marijuana was laced ?

Dude, please listen to me man. You DO NOT have ANY brain damage. Your weed WAS NOT laced. You have what is called derealization (look it up on Google). Marijuana can cause derealization to people with an underlying anxiety disorder, read it all on Google. Ask yourself, have things gone worst after 5 months after the day this started? No. Does derealization affect your mental ability? No. Your memory is not the way it used to be, this does not mean you have brain damage, your brain just looks at everything as a dream, in a dream all of our memories are bad, it is almost impossible to get lots of information out of a dream after you wake up. This is what derealization is, your brain goes into sort of a dream mode/state, whatever you want to call it, it will not last forever. I know everything about this so please listen to the advice I am going to give you... Do NOT think about your brain damage/derealization for 1 month, ignore it, never focus on it, do not be afraid of it, act as if you always had it, act as if it is not a deal at all, act as if you LIKE to be this way, enjoy being it this state, DON'T be afraid of it (anxiety), and best of all, ignore it and never freak out when you notice it, whether it increases/decreases, whatever. But remember, derealization is anxiety. I got so high once, I though I wasn't going to survive the trip/it was never going to end. I felt the way you felt for months and it somewhat got better. I started to smoke marijuana again after 6 months, twice a day everyday for about 2 months, increasing my dose each time and when I stopped, after a month I didn't even care about it, I can't even tell if I have derealization anymore, it is gone! Hope this helps! :)

    Can Marijuana Cause Brain Damage

  • 1 decade ago

    You don't have brain damage!!!!!!!

BINGO and YES to your Q: "Can anxiety make you feel convinced about an irrational fear?

    Brian is correct!

ROTFL! No brain damage from one joint! You need a therapist - you dropped anxiety/ocd - with this ramble it means you need a shrink.

One joint 5 months ago?! The W: Question marks do not make a question!

Why, Kevin Johnson, do you suddenly come up with that term after telling people there is no problem with long term use from your own experience? Anti marijuana propaganda to W and KJ!

Source(s): MJ and reading through the smoke!

Dude, whatever you smoked was NOT Marijuana.

The Marijuana effect wears out after a maximum of 5 hours if you smoke A LOT.

And Marijuana causes no brain damage, only lack of motivation is certain individuals if smoked excessively over a longer period of time.

So whatever you go is not related to the Marijuana plant, but to something else, it might have been in the joint, I'm not denying that, but it sure as hell is not Marijuana.

You're just extremely misinformed about the Marijuana plant and over thinking it, you are freaking out because you think Marijuana can damage your brain, when in reality it can not.

Trust me, ask any person with a medical degree, Marijuana is not harmful for your brain, I know some might argue that, but it's not harmful in terms of brain damage.

It can affect your psychological health if you smoke it too much, but one joint can not affect anything.

What makes you ill is your fear of brain damage, not the brain damage itself. Do some research, it will convince you that you are not brain damaged. And if that doesn't help, consult a psychiatrist.

It depends on how long or how hard someone abuses it. I know some old pot-heads who are permanently fried over what they did several years past. Most people who have used it recreationally don't have long-term problems. The one exception is the chemicals it may be treated with or additives - that can really mess you up.

Yo man. Going through this myself. You any better yet?

Marijuana affects people in different ways some people get sad or angrey some people get calm that is the most common. I will never smoke marijuana because I have anxiety and this would cause me to FREAK OUT!

And I think maybe you have a disorder and the weed triggered it.

I think you should see a doctor!

it may have been laced. Weed doesn't do this to anyone. Or, just try snapping out of it. You may be in a psychosis or something. Realize that weed doesn't do this to you, and you are just imagining all of this, and meditate on it.
