Why is it that big government conservatives hate liberal "big government"?
I mean, haven't conservatives always been the big government ones? The ones who are always trying to make us live by THEIR values by using the government as a tool for it? Are they not the ones with things like the defense of marriage act, the patriot act, and the papers please law in Arizona to name a few. They advocate censorship of media and taking away rights from gay's and immigrants. They are also ok with wire tapping without warrants and holding prisoners for indefinite amounts of time. THESE are all the authoritarian things. These things are all "big government". Liberals have always been the freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of assembly, freedom for everyone anti-government ones. Liberals never try to tell people how to live, they only allow people to live however they want to. Are Republican politicians really that smart that they can trick the people who vote for them into thinking that they can be small government politicians while at the same time advocating big government policies. How did this call get turned around to make some people think liberals are the oppressive ones? I mean, if a gay couple gets married or a low income family gets health care or a kid from the ghetto gets a shot at college it doesn't take away my freedom.

Who knows how things work in the mind of a conservative? They vote for the people who are anxious to cut services and protections that the middle and poor class rely on.

You have it a tad off base. Conservatism, in current form, means a believe in less, smaller, government. Including return of control of local and state matters to each locale and state. A return of US Federal Government to it pre 1970's form. More in tune with it's actual duties under the Constitution. Lower small business and corporate taxes. More equal distribution of the tax burden. A balanced budget. A Conservative would not censor your speech, nor anyone else, Nor become belligerent. Should you say or write something out of step with his beliefs.
If, you've noticed? It is only liberals who wish to be so intrusive into you life. Tell you what type light bulb you may buy. The type of Television. The type of car. The type of appliance. The manner of how your work station is configured. The type of toilet you may buy. The type of drink you may buy. What is and is not allowed in private businesses (IE smoking, etc) Conservatives would allow you to decide for yourself. Allowing businesses and overall public purchasing decide what succeeds and fails in daily consumer lives.
Have you noticed since 1996 that fewer and fewer top load washers are available to buy? That the so called efficient front loaders cost 2 to 3 times as much and do not last two years? That's just ONE example of big government. There are more.

In the end, conservatives believe in representative democracy at the most local levels of government. That is what is most important because it results in the most freedom.
You're too hung up on specific issues. Who cares if the people in Alabama and Mississippi want to live differently than left-wing loons like you. It's their right under the Tenth Amendment. You presume that gays and illegal immigrants have some "rights"--they don't. Neither is a so-called "suspect class" under the U.S. constitution: each has only the general constitutional and legislative rights that everyone else has.

Federal government was never meant to run domestic policy. Those are state government issues. As soon as domestic policy is returned to the states, and social security, medicare, medicaid, education, welfare is eliminated from the federal budget, things will be just fine.
Then we'll fight it out at the state level.

they get sucked in by the money in Washington DC and they become just as corrupt as the big government Democrats. Newt and Huckabee are perfect examples.

It's obvious both parties support big government.
Republicans support big government through limited social freedoms.
Democrats support big government through limited economic freedoms.
That's why I am Libertarian, Libertarians support all freedoms.

Republican and conservatives care more about property rights then just about anything else. They will defend their right to property at the expense of others.

yes the cons are big government too, but they want control of your life as well
