Windows 7: media player/Cd drive problem?

Toshiba Satelite, windows 7,duel core 64 bit lots of hard drive and ram. Ok now that we got that out of the way my problem. One day out of the blue Windows media player and my dvd/cd drive stopped talking. I can play music from the library of my media player with no problems at all but when I insert a cd into my drive, the light comes on and the cd turns but media player doesn't see it, when I go to my computer and look at my cd drive, the cd isn't even listed in there. So since I am a better mechanic than a geek, can someone tell me if my drive hiccuped and went bad ??? I have checked the drivers for everything, all up to date. I even tried another media player and still, nothing, nadda, it's like my cd drive isn't even there... Just for grins, I have tried other cd's just to make sure it's not me LOL. Nothing has been changed or added other than the typical updates we see every now and then. I can say that I am not sure if a update for my media player was installed. I guess I should be a little bit better of a geek. Thanks in advance for any help you may offer...

One thing you can try doing is reinstalling the driver for that disc drive. If that doesn't work, see if you have a restore point right before a recent update. Sometimes when updates are installed, they form conflicts within drivers or programs. If restoring your comp to a previous restore point works, then its obviously something with the updates that are installing. On a side note, I've had 2 Toshiba satellite laptops in the past....brought me nothing but problems. Lol hopefully you get it working!

in maximum situations it fairly is brought about via a in general pointless registry key. here's a thank you to repair it: a million) pass to start->Run 2) variety Regedit and click ok 3) follow the path below (in the past doing this pass to record export and save it on your very own laptop. this could be your backup in case you accidently delete the incorrect registry key): HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE gadget CurrentControlSet administration type {4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318} 4) seek for "top Filters" and/or "decrease Filters" and delete those. 5) Restart your laptop and see if it works.
