How do I update my PC?

I have an E-Machines 1Gig PC that is 3 1/2 years old. It is starting to act very weird and slow. I run Microsoft's Anti-virus, Super anti-spyware, CCleaner, IObit defrag. to try to keep it clean and infection free. I am not much for using this PC for social sites, printing, blogging, etc. I mainly use it for downloading (LEGALLY) documentaries, New World Order vids., and making comments on various sites that give you a chance to express your opinion. I got 1 message that informed me my VIDEO software was old and needed updating. I can still see 98% of the video out there but, this particular site tells me to update. All in all, I love my little PC and since I use it alot but for just a few things, how can I CHEAPLY up-date my machine without going broke. I can afford maybe 100.00 bucks. Anymore than that and I might as well get a new one. Any suggestions?

You don't mention the Operating System, CPU or the video software that is out of date so it's hard to give you an accurate response. However, if the main problem is the Video software being out of date, you can probably update it for free in the developer's website. If you can't see some video files out there, the problem is probably with the lack of codecs, which are used by your video seoftware to understand the format of those files. This is one example but there are many available out there:

Keep your drivers up to date. I don't know E-Machines but maybe they have a section with driver updates for all hardware components in your pc, otherwise you'll need to know the manufacturers of each component to go to their websites and download updated drivers.

Depending on your OS, upgrading it to Windows 7 should resolve all software-out-of-date issues. I think the Home Premium edition goes for less than 100$

As far as the hardware goes, there's not much info on that but 1GB of ram is enough for your use of the pc.

Order replace Cd's / DVDs from Microsoft, and carry out the updates offline. installation & configure cocktail of anti-malware apps. test for malware. carry out a defrag & disk cleanup. Create an entire equipment restoration component and/or create a backup of your equipment. you need to be innoculated adequate to combat off viri, once you flow on line. i could additionally positioned funds right into a regular firewall as nicely to the dwelling house windows firewall. If something is going incorrect, you may restoration lower back to the restoration component or backup.
