No, for one as some pointed out seperate fields. No more a slap in the face than the art dept vs the math dept. Also, univeristies should teach theology/divinity courses. University comes from the word universe, they originally made sure a person had more of a rounded education. This is why you see math students in art classes, theology degrees have a hard science requirement, and art majors take both.

Yes and the reasons being that employers seems to prefer hiring someone with theology / divinity degrees than someone with science degree. It is not written anywhere, but it is a matter of preference. As an employer, I find them more hard working, long suffering, can work under pressure, and have higher integrity. I do not know why, but that is the facts on the field that I notice after more than 30 years being in business world.

I don't get the connection. Are philosophy departments a slap in the face to universities with more emphasis on the "hard sciences"?

For people who are wise, there does not have to be a divide between science and religion. You just can't take an ancient book, written before people knew very much about the world of matter, energy, etc, literally.
Science does not obviate the spiritual world. It just can't prove it yet.

As they deal with completely separate fields, why would they be? The groups out there whose leaders actually receive theology degrees are not the ones trying to contradict science; that is fundamentalist/evangelical Christians, who are largely without higher education.

Nope.
It's not like all of the social "sciences" or art classes are logical, so what's the big deal if some illogical religion is thrown in?

only to those to whom science is a religion that they mistakenly believe has all the answers.
