How to handle the smoked cake situation?
My step mom brought over a cake she made, and all the party food she made for my daughter's birthday. It was really nice of her to put in all of that effort for the party. I sincerely do appreciate her effort, there were tons of kids to feed.
And my boyfriend and I knew she and her husband (new husband, not my dad) smoked, like chimneys... BUT we didn't know they smoked IN the house. I suppose they started recently? Idk?
None of the kids or other adults ate any of the food, and my daughter refused to eat her cake. (I tried the cake and I couldn't believe it, it tasted like pure cigarette smoke, I tried not to throw it up, it was so strong.)
We ended up ordering pizzas, and everything turned out fine party wise.
But my step mom left the party, I think her feelings were hurt. I heard she was mad at me for not encouraging the girls to eat it anyways. Kind of unfair.
So on one hand, she should really put two-and-two together, so I just want to ask her what did she think would happen? Can she seriously not taste anything from all that smoking? On the other hand, I feel so bad for her. Should I call her and apologize?
My boyfriend thinks she should call me to apologize?

ouch! sounds bad! i would apologize because you would feel better, and because whether or not she excepts your apology, you still did the right thing. but make sure you tell her that you REALLY appreciated all the hard work! but you didn't want the kids to eat something full of smoke! (i mean its probably like the same as second hand smoke? it can get them sick!) then depending on how the conversation went, you can suggest the start smoking outside again. hope this helps!

EWWW...Just EWWW...Thank God for Pizza...poor thing couldn't even eat her Birthday Cake. Maybe you can make it up to her...buy her a "Smoke-Free Cake". You don't need to apologize for anything. She was probably smoking Over the food as she made it! Just Gross!

Your kids don't have to go to the pub (why would they go). If its a good to make more money for you guys let him do it. But if you don't trust him then sit down and talk it out.

Her palette is probably destroyed from smoking so I'm sure she couldn't taste it. I would call her and thank her graciously for all her hard work but tell her (gently!) that it tasted like cigarettes.

She honestly doesn't smell or taste the smoke because she is so used to it . You need to sit her down and discuss this with her .......
