15 month old son - semi skimmed milk ok?

He gets very very constipated to the point of screaming and straining all day when i tried whole milk. So i put him on toddler formula. now i need to get him off this really and start with normal milk... would half formula and half semi skimmed be ok? Just after your experiances please. He eats lots of fruits & veg and juice therefore its not a matter of trying other options because ive tried them all.... Just like to know of anyone who put baby on semi skimmed milk and baby didnt grow an extra head or limb etc!!

Thanks in advance.

i heard that as long as you do whole milk for about the first year it is fine. i think this is just fine, but just in case maybe you should ask his doctor at the next visit.

I really haven't heard of milk causing constipation. Babies need the fat that is in whole milk in order to keep fat up with their bodies growing so fast right now. It is recommended in the 2nd yr of life. Skim and 2% milk will make baby thin out to fast. Try some diluted half and half (water and 100% juice) apple juice for a few days and see if that helps. Once a day in the morning with breakfast you can try straight apple juice but be sure to brush his teeth well after because the acid is not good for little new teeth. Straight juice should help a lot. If that doesn't then ask his pediatrician if there is something you can give him once a day to help him go so that he can get his whole milk. In the mean time there is nothing wrong with the toddler formula for a bit until you can get the constipation thing under control. Similac makes a toddler formula for over 1 yr old up to 2 yrs of age. But he really needs whole milk and regular food as soon as you can.

Take your baby to the Doctor. Its very important that your baby gets whole milk, Its so important for the growth of the bones and the brain. I really would advise to talk to your Doctor:)

Also if your baby is constipated and having those problems it could be due to all the fruits and juice. Tell your Doctor evey thing that you have told us.

All I know is Skimmed milk is a big no no. Even cutting it down with water. Its a must that they get that whole milk.

while that seems like a good compromise, babies/toddlers must have the milk fat, in whole milk, for proper brain development. however, plenty of babies have cow's milk allergies/intolerances. i would suggest trying an equally healthy alternative, such as goat's milk. there are other similar alternatives; i would consult the child's doctor about the constipation with cow's milk and discuss your options. you guys will figure out what works :)

He really needs to be on whole milk, children ages 1 & 2 need that fat for brain development & for growth. Try giving him water to drink between meals, give him raisins or prunes each day, & he also needs to be eating high fiber foods, all of this will help with his constipation.

You should give him whole milk babies don't need low fat products. It can actually be bad for them I'm pretty sure it says on the bottle that it's not recommended for infants.
