Why is there always standing water in my washer?

I've got a front-loading washer that I bought used, it works fine but after every load is done instead of pressing most of the water out the clothing is still sopping wet and there's 2-3 inches of standing water in the bottom of the washer. Any idea what could be causing this?

Depending on the type of washer you have, you may have a slipping belt or a worn out gear. Your washer may sound like it is going strong during the spin cycle, but it probably is not, so you will have trouble getting all the soap out of your clothes even after 2 rinses. This can cause skin irritation.

If that is not the problem, then you may have a partially plugged drain, but that is real easy to check.

Something wrong.... slipping belt, something stuck in the pump or clogging the lines? Get a washer with a direct drive next time

99% of cases i have seen of this has been a Bra Wire stuck in the pump. The Pipes are only held on with a circlip and the wire can be removed with long nosed pliers.

Either the drain hose, drain filter are clogged or the drain pump is shot.
