  • Rear brake calipers on 92 FZR600?

I'm replacing the brake pads on my 92 FZR600, and I can't get the rear calipers to compress. I took the top off the master cylinder, and opened both bleeder valves (I even removed the bleeder screws and cleaned them). Is there a trick to getting the calipers to compress?

  • Jumpstarted bike with car on?

Just bought my first bike, a 92 FZR600. And I'll be honest I'm mechanically competent with cars but my only bike knowledge is what carries over from cars. Anyway, I bought the bike today, the battery was dead and the guy I bought it from told me it was safe to jump it from a car (didn't say anything about leaving the car off). I didn't look it up online until after I tried it. Anyway it starts when jumped, but it makes a scraping noise like a slipping belt at idle (goes away once you get over 2k rpms)...and as soon as I remove the jumped cables it dies immediately. Any ideas what I screwed up? It didn't make the noise when I ran it at the previous owner's place, but I can't say for sure that the two issues are related.

  • Why is there always standing water in my washer?

I've got a front-loading washer that I bought used, it works fine but after every load is done instead of pressing most of the water out the clothing is still sopping wet and there's 2-3 inches of standing water in the bottom of the washer. Any idea what could be causing this?

  • Recommend internet service in Indianapolis?

I'm moving to the north side of Indianapolis, near 56th and Michigan, and I'm hoping to get DSL set up this week. AT&T has excellent pricing ($25 a month for 6mb/sec download service!) but according to their website tool, at our address the fastest available is 1.5MB. With four people in the house, all of whom are in school and will be online frequently, 1.5MB/sec download isn't going to cut it if we can help it. Who else should I look at for a faster available service?

  • Is this VLSD welded or locked for some other reason?

I got a VLSD for my 240sx from a guy, installed it, and it drives as if its a locker not an LSD. I cracked it open, and this is what it looks like inside.

Is it welded? If so is there any way to safely break the welds and restore it to VLSD status, or is it screwed?

  • Is my ankle broken, or just sprained?

I wrenched my ankle badly two days ago...it hurt at first, but I after a few minutes I could walk on it until after I got off work 4 hours later, though it as swelling pretty bad, and bruising somewhat. After I got off it it got really stiff and painful,so I stayed off it until work the following evening. While I was working it seemed less painful, though the swelling increased...when I got off work I unwrapped it and it looked like this:

    http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc4/hs245...

It's been that way now for roughly 24 hours - my whole foot and lower shin is swollen, my ankle is bright redish-purple. Did I just sprain it badly, or did I break it?

And please don't comment unless you actually know what you're talking about. kthanx

  • How is the origin of the universe explained?

Any basic science book will tell you that based on carbon dating, our earth is between 4 and 4.5 billions years old, and our universe is roughly 13 billion years old. Scientists are very specific on these points, and they have come up with numerous theories detailing the finer points of how our earth formed, etc. But they all blatantly ignore one question - HOW did our universe come into existence? Not how did it form, but where did it come from? Where did the matter, space, and energy come from? And don't say the big bang theory...that's the how, not the where. Where did the matter for the bang come from? Excluding religious beliefs I have yet to hear a reasonable answer...or even an attempt at an answer.

    Thoughts?

  • What what powers the Midwest power grid?

I'm currently working on a research power, and no amount of googling has netted any sort of official website stating what percentages of the power grid in either the Midwest or Indiana in particular are powered by what source. I know a majority is coal power, with some natural gas and small bits of alternative sources, but I can't find anything official. Can anyone help me out?

    Thanks!

  • What free/old rpg works on windows 7?

I recently purchased a laptop running windows 7 for school, and at the moment I have two hours to kill and no homework to do...can someone recommend me a free rpg that will work on windows 7? I don't have audio and the connection is slow, so I'm hoping for an old diablo-like game with an engaging storyline and minimal system requirements.

  • xbox internet question?

My modem is on the lower level of the house connected to a N300 wireless router. One PC is physically wired to it. My other PC is upstairs connected via the wireless router. The xbox 360 is upstairs next to the PC...instead of having to purchase an expensive wireless adapter, is it possible to connect the 360 through the PC via an ethernet crossover cable?

  • Are parts for a 240sx insanely expensive?

I'm seriously considering buying a 96 Nissan 240SX to replace my Regal (it's just starting to wear out) but I'm really kind of discouraged due to the incredible cost of parts. ($162 for a IAC and $700 for a MAF, compared to $3 and $140 for my Regal). Did I just happen to pricecheck expensive parts, or is the whole car like this? There's no way I can afford a car who's parts are 5 times more expensive than the same parts for my Regal.

  • Will these tires fit on my rims?

This is probably a stupid question, but I don't know much about tire sizing. I can't put a set of 215/60/R15 tires on rims which currently have 215/65/R16 tires equipped, right?

  • New ball joint went out after a month?

About a month ago I replaced a bunch of stuff on my front end - my control arms, (with bushings and ball joints) my sway bar, my tie rod ends, and one wheel bearing. Got it aligned, and everything was great. A couple days ago, I started hearing a bit of a clunking every time my car rocked forward or backward during acceleration/breaking. I assumed it was just worn strut mounts, but it started getting worse quickly last night on my way to work - I looked under the car and the boot on the driverside ball joint is torn. Its still under warrenty, so I'm just out the cost of the alignment + my labor, but is there anything I could've done that caused it to tear, or was it a defective part? (And yes, I did go cheap and get the Master Pro instead of the Moog...but it should still have lasted longer than a month.)

In other words, am I dumb, or unlucky?

  • In Criminal Minds, Why does Reed carry a revolver?

In the tv show Criminal Minds, I've always wondered why Reed carries a revolved (I think it's a Smith and Wesson .38, although I could be wrong) while the rest of the team carries standard-issue police semiautomatic handguns. Is there some significance to that, or is it just a random detail?
