Flutterby- from D's Back Porch, one of my favorites, smiles?

Written by Dallas 3 weeks ago

Fuzzy, ticklin caterpillar

does more than crawl

touched its back, it's a dance

a last chance before metamorphin

in a natural, driven call

inchin on my back porch rail

I pray it makes it's way

so I nudge it toward

the vertical post

a host, cocooned today

Soon I know, tented it will change

emerge with beautiful wings

I'll go out each day and watch

patience is what it takes

and when its beauty is released, I will sing

Update:

Maybe post one of your favorites, let's keep her close

There are many of 'Dallas' poems I hold close

    ....

    Accidentally

Awesome views in the light of day

Night offers little but a monochromatic pall

In slow motion as life races.

High speed, Black Ice, steep grade

    a most toxic cocktail.

So easily forgotten the images in life's slide show

One frame at a time, in the mind

Too fast at coming to hide in history

    Memory now vague but slipping

Thoughts of any God more so

No more than a minor distraction

    An untimely reaction, sense diluted

Salvation is only a fleeting guess in this play.

No standing ovations no rational cause, an end approaching

As the Reaper steps on stage laughing, laying out a welcome mat.

The last moments of a life played out

A ridiculous cartoon; The iron grip of irony

As fractal truth unfolds in a final breath

Tires know the pain of truth on the road, spinning

The curtain comes down to stop this now.

Morning will happen again, as will the Sun,

Black ice forgotten, gone, as a road crew cleans up

Repairs made, shovels and brooms put away

Nothing now remains but twisted dreams ended

    out of any control.

Close tonight JC....I'm going to sit on my front porch and look at the stars

    ....She's a good girl...is our Dallas...*sigh*

I'll wait for her to say hello...it will be soon.

I am delinquent and I missed answering this poem

It had only one answer and that surprises me, Grandpas and back porches are both special - very to me.

Dallas, we love you and this is one of your poems I really like.

One back porch night, will you C/C please?

Gramps and I sat under the stars,

"Why do they have to be so far?"

If they were closer they'd cause you fright

and you'd stay awake questioning me all night.

"Yeah OK but why do some twinkle and blink

can ya tell me that huh, whadda ya think?"

    Elementary my dear

that's caused by variations in our atmosphere.

I got a puzzled look on my face

"Yikes gramps did ya go to outer space?

He laughed sayin no, I learned that from Watson and Holmes

There is some knowledge in these old bones.

"Yowee can yer bones really get smart?

is it too late for my bones to start?

Did they really have schools way back then?

like back when you was 6 or 10?"

Were those two guys teachers ya had

were they good ones or were they bad?

Hey too, did ya have TV, did ya ever ride a merry-go-round,

Did ya keep the first penny ya ever found?"

Gramps wrinkled his eyebrows and shook his head.

Isn't it time you were going to bed

"Look there quick a fallin dream Star

we better run, hope it don't hit yer car."

"I got lots more questions ya know

I'm tryin to get my brains to grow.

Like I heard you say money don't grow on trees,

can ya tell me why not, can ya please?

So if I put my penny in the ground,

it won't make a tree, and'll never be found?"

I think tonight your lessons are over.

"Ok just one more, did ya ever find a 4 leaf clover?"

I couldn't sleep well that night, and fell out slow.

I was thinkin of other stuff to know.

    Off the route signed 129

    exists a place

    left undefined.

    Tall columns

    of long Pines are deployed

    guardin spaces I most enjoy.

It's just got no real name

    no dubious, or otherwise

    claims to fame.

    Speedin life don't look

    or know, or care.

    I don't really own it

    but I am enfolded

    in a most familial sense.

    and the fences

    ain't meant to keep out

    but in.

There ain't any clocks that matter,

    we've never been more

    than vaguely rocked

from the outside workin their own sins.

Maybe that can be its designation?

    off any maps.

    "Timeless"

That one was about a month ago, love it. (tryin' not to cry here dangit1)
