How do I follow up on a job application?

I am a 17-year-old high school student with no prior work experience, and I emailed my resume to a pizza place who said they were hiring anyone 16 or older for counter help.

How should I contact them for a follow-up on my application status: call or email?

How long should I wait from the time I emailed the resume before I do a follow-up email/call?

And what do I say in the follow-up call/email?

Thanks in advance for anyone who can help!

P.S. I have not gotten any response or interview or anything yet. :(

Update:

It said in the job offer to email the resume, not go into the store.

It's acceptable to call within a day to confirm they received your resume, and to ask how quickly they are looking to fill the position. Try not to call right when they are at the busiest time of the night or you may annoy.

First off, e-mailing a resume is NOT considered applying for a position. Second, e-mail is not very not professional. You need to make an actual effort to obtain the position. Sending an e-mail is NOT effort.
