Information on Thailand visa?

We are travelling to Phuket from Canada. I know we can get a tourist visa for 30 days on arrival. However we will be there for 32 days, and I'm not sure what to do.

Thanks

Update:

Edit. We leave Jan 26th arriving into Phuket Jan 27th @ 11:20 p.m. We depart Feb 27th @ 2:45 a.m.

If we are slow going through Immigration on arrival we might be able to have Jan 28th as our arrival date.

Leaving do you think we could go through on the 26th before midnight? That would make it 30 days.

Or maybe just pay the fine?

You don't get a Tourist Visa for 30 days; what you do get with a US or Canadian passport is Visa Exemption stamp in your passport that allows you to enter and stay for 30 days. A tourist visa is a different thing. Up until just this past March 31 the 60 day tourist visas were free.

You can purchase an extension on or before your time is up. I think the price is 1900 baht.

Thai Visa Forum goes into this in greater detail.

You won't be the first tourists with this problem:

When you fly from the US or Canada to Thailand you advance one day. Check the arrival day printed on your itinerary and see if you can squeak through with the free 30 days. Depending on when you leave for your trip you can apply for a tourist visa, good for 60 days and be covered. Some ticket agents at your first airport may question if your visa covers your return date - some never check!

    Good luck.

    3 options

    - Get a 60 tourist visa before you arrive

    - Extend your 30 days visa exempt for 1900 baht at an immigration office

    - Make a visa run to a neighboring country near the end of your trip and get another 15 days visa exempt upon re-entry
