Is sitting in the corner for two hours a good punishment for eight year old son for bad behavior at school ?
Like spitting at people or disrespecting teachers. The punishment would be when he gets home from school. If it's not a good punishment, what would you recommend?

I don't think that's a surefire way to correct behaviour... Maybe having a one on one with him first explaining to him why we do not behave in such a manor would be more beneficial and productive then just placing them in the corner and saying think about what you've done.. if he's already acting out like that, then obviously he thinks it's okay or there's another reason why he's doing it, maybe he feels like nobody can see him and then only way to get attention is by acting out in ridiculous ways.
Personally, I would do the one on one, and then ask him to write out reasons why he did this, and then write out reasons why it's unacceptable to do this and how it might hurt somebody's feelings.

I would recommend taking away TV, computer, and video games the rest of the night. Make him stay in his room and do homework, only coming out to eat dinner and use the restroom.
Making someone sit in a corner for 2 hours will make them even more combative....that's not a good idea.

Ask yourself what you expect him to learn from sitting in a corner for two hours. He's likely to learn more about personal responsibility by apologizing (verbally and/or in writing) to each person he spit at or disrespected. I would also suggest talking with him about why he's behaving this way at school. Make sure you listen to what he has to say rather than just lecturing.

I would not sit my child in the corner for that length of time personally. My usual punishment is banning them from playing with their favorite toys/games for a day or two. I would also have them write a letter of apology and make them apologize to the teacher.

At 8 years old I recall writing lines of "I will not hit my little brother" or something to that affect.
Maybe you could have him do "I will not spit on or near other people" or "I will be respectful to my teachers"
Why is he behaving like this in the first place? What does he get away with at home?

We've isolated our son before for being out of control like that. Either he sits in the corner or must stay in his room alone. There is nothing worse to him than being isolated so it works. I don't think there is anything wrong with that as a punishment as long as it isn't taken to the nth degree like made to hold books out or making fun of him standing alone or not allowed to go to the bathroom.
Better yet, we've also made our son write an apology note during his time out or we've made him write "I will not spit" (yes he's done it too) 50 times.

i would confine him to his bedroom (locked in if neccessary) and make him wright out 150 lines i must not spit etc, when the work is done he can come out of his room, if he does it again it becomes 200 lines then 250 etc he will soon get the message.

No that is not going to teach him to respect anyone......make him write sentences instead-- I will not spit on people, or I will treat my teacher with respect.

I learn't to give what they are in age as punishment...My son is 3 and he gets 3 minutes in time out for whatever he does, that I consider inappropriate(talking back mainly)...You can try giving him 8 minutes of time out..but then again his 8!! Try stripping him of something he loves...tv,cell phone, friends over, playing outside...and EXPLAIN to him why you are taking these things and leave it as that.
