Can some older people help me out with the tittle of a 70's car movie?

It's about a young guy traveling around in a Willys or an Anglia that he's set up for drag racing but is still (barely) street legal. It's painted in grey primer and has no starter due to the hi-po engine, so he push starts it all the time. There's a love interest and he gets into some trouble, that's all I can remember about it.
