house repubs want to turn medicare into a voucher program. believe it or not?

Update 2:

The key question is whether the new scheme would make the same guarantee of comprehensive, affordable coverage that Medicare does. The answer would seem to be no. Princeton University economist Uwe Reinhardt, among the most respected health care experts anywhere, explained the distinction while analyzing the Ryan-Rivlin plan for the New York Times:

Under the Ryan-Rivlin plan, Medicare would be changed from the defined-benefit plan it has been since its inception to a defined contribution plan.

Under the defined-benefit plan, the government promised to procure specified medical goods and services for Medicare beneficiaries, as medical necessities assessed by the beneficiary’s physician. That puts the risk of escalating costs for that health care mainly onto the shoulders of taxpayers, although Medicare beneficiaries share in these costs through premiums for Part B of Medicare (chiefly physician services) and co-payments at the time of service.

Under the defined contributi

Update 3:

Medicare beneficiaries are more satisfied with their insurance coverage. Only 8 percent of elderly Medicare beneficiaries rated their insurance “fair or poor,” in contrast with 18 percent of individuals with employer-based insurance. Thirty-two percent of Medicare beneficiaries had at least one negative insurance experience, compared with 44 percent of those covered by an employer plan.

Update 5:

obamacare cut medicare advantage which corporate welfare for insurance companies.

Update 6:

For example, 61 percent of Americans overall favored raising Medicare taxes to avoid a cut in benefits. The current payroll tax is 2.9 percent on wages, evenly divided between workers and their employers. The new health care law added a surcharge of 0.9 percent on earnings over $200,000 for individuals and $250,000 for couples filing jointly.

Update 7:

the vouchers will not keep up with skyrocketing medical costs.

Update 8:

the vouchers will not keep up with skyrocketing medical costs.

Update 9:

the corporate media has not focused on this.

Update 10:

yes, they want to privatize medicare.

Update 11:

obamacare cut medicare advantage which is corporate welfare for insurance companies.

Update 12:

privatize medicare so insurance companies can get more corporate welfare.

Update 13:

says fix news?

Update 14:

some repubs said privatizing soc sec would not lead to any cuts. they lied about that too.

Update 15:

cbo estimates obamacare will reduce the deficit which will take pressure off of medicare and medicaid.

Update 16:

so save it by killing it.

Update 17:

same repubs want to save medicare the same way they saved iraq.

Update 18:

Believe It Or Not ; You libs` are doing the same thing that you did with the bogus Obama Care Bill : You haven`t read either one of them !!! ~~~~ If you had read the facts rather than be led blindly by the liberal scare tactics you would know that this doesn`t include any current MediCare recipients . This is for future Medicare generations , ones` not yet retired on the current system !!! Of course your liberal scare tactic talking points fail`s to mention this fact about the Republican plan ! A top Republican this week endorsed a GOP plan to rein in deficit spending by privatizing Medicare and scaling back the program's benefits.

Rep. Spencer Bachus (Ala.) said the controversial measure — championed by Rep. Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) — would shore up the nation's entitlement programs and """""""doesn't cut any benefits to do that."""""""'

Instead, Ryan's plan — dubbed "The Road map for America's Future" — """""""gradually raises the retirement age … and simply gets a handle on accountability,""""""""" Bachus, senior Republican on the Financial Services Committee, told the Fox Business Network Monday.

"You don't have to cut benefits … What you have to do is you have to reform Social Security; you have to reform Medicaid and Medicare. ****** If you don't … they're going to fail." *******

True. They would also like to have the government stop paying for SS too. That is because they are given a completely different system of retirement and health care then the rest of us. They pay nothing because the taxpayers pay it for them. Also they get it lifelong as long as they have worked one day in office. Sweet.

And Obama wanted to cut medicare a half billion dollars with Obamcare before it was turned down by both Dems and Republicans.
