Winchester Super-X value pack buckshot problems?

Does anyone know why I'm having problems with Winchester Super-X? I recently purchased a couple boxes of 2.75'' and 3'' 00 Buckshot (the 15rnd value packs from Wal-Mart), but for some reason these shells keep hanging up and failing to extract. I also noticed that it looks like the shot is pushing out on the hulls. I've heard that Winchester uses pretty soft hull material anyway, but I really don't think it would be causing these kind of hiccups.

Anyone else have problems with these shells?

NOTICE: I'm not big on reloading practices (or problems associated), but I had the primer back out on one of them. I didn't notice anything other than when it ejected (this one did), the primer was pushed out of the pocket a tiny bit. I don't know if they're not paying attention to QC as much as they should, but this happened in a healthy gun... NOT the gun's fault. *Just a heads up*

Update:

Glacierwolf: Pump, and break open single shots. When they hung up in the pump, I figured try them out in a single. Still had a HUGE problem extracting... as in; I needed a screwdriver.

Update 2:

MJ: I am now an official member of the Yahoo! Answers Crime Squad. I figured that if I couldn't beat them... that I should join them. They gave me a badge and a keyboard. Bad idea... really, REALLY bad idea.

Update 3:

Glacierwolf: B.S. Wait for the brass to contract? That would mean ALL semi-autos would be rendered absolutely useless.

Update 4:

Bear Crap: Thank you! And on top of that, you are entirely welcome.

I have seen some hulls that the lip on the brass had a slight angle to it where the extractor comes in contact. I had an over and under that would extract shells several feet in the air but with a certain brand the extractor slipped past the rim of the hull. After removing the hull I found scratch marks where the extractor slipped by. So then I measured it with my slide caliper and found the brass end was undersized by just enough the extractor couldn’t grab it. That was years ago and I’m not sure of the brand ammo.

Then I had some Winchester high base #2 lead 3 “ mag shells that hung up in every one of my 3” mag shotguns. I mean pumps, doubles, autos etc and what it was is after the hull opened its overall length was too long. It was pressed into the forcing cone. It also was too long to fit out the ejection port of my Mossberg Pump and some of my auto shotguns.

As for the buck shot pressing out, I have seen that on different brands. Most chambered fine but some were so swollen they were difficult to chamber. And it was the ones that were difficult to chamber that were also difficult to extract.

I doubt any of that will help you. But I can tell you why buckshot can bluge out on the plastic hull; factory fvkup. You see some size buck shot just wont lay right in the shell. Some sizes you can arrange them better than others.

    See bottom of page for buck shot alignment in the hull;

    http://www.shotgunworld.com/bbs/viewtopic.php?t=12...

If they don’t fit in organized groups or layers they will want to roll over the one below when you press down on them. To prevent this when handloading you use a good buffer to fill the void between them as you place them inside, tapping to settle the buffer as you add the buckshot. Then you carefully leave a space above the payload to have room for the crimp. If you don’t leave that room, as you crimp the crimp will press down on the shotload and bulge out the side of the shell.

So as I said; factory error. And the thinner the hull wall the more it will bulge.

**Buy different shells buddy.** And thanks for the heads up!

I had the exact problem with Eley game loads a while back. Spoke to Eley customer services. Returned the whole batch, got a refund and replacement shells.

Maybe worth a chat with Winchester customer services.

The shell case is made from HDPE, there may well be a fault within the extrusion process.

I'm not sure this will help your situation at all, but I have never had any problems with Winchester factory shells. And I have fired quite a few of their Slugs, Buckshot, And Bird Shot.

Hopefully this is only a rare example of theses shells having problems.

Gregg, I have no scientific advice here. But I have had better luck with Remington shells over Winchester and especially Federal.

Wait, wait, wait...Are you shooting an Ithaca by chance? There's your problem!

Settle down, I'm just kidding about the Ithaca.

    Hmmm........

Winchester has some issues. The Win. Universal target loads stick in the chamber of my 870. You know how pissed I was that I bought $20 in shells and couldn't use them?

Now, I only buy Remington and Federal if I can help it.

Yeah.......... you couldn't have mentioned if this was a semi-auto, pump, double barrel, over and under, or single shot? Since they have different ejection systems.

9 times out of 10 - ejection problems in a pump shotgun are the result of the shooter putting too much rearward pressure on the pump with the left hand while firing. As the shotgun fires and simultaniously releases the pump mechanism to go rearward - you need a small gap in time to allow the shell brass to contract. If you are pulling back it disturbes the contraction process and the shell hangs up.

There is a difference in the cause of an ejection problem from a person who is trying to fire several shots fast, and, someone who is firing, waiting a second, and then having an ejection issue with a pump.

    Need more info from you.

Geez, Gregg, didn't you know you had to wait for the brass to contract?
