This same question is being asked all over the world why do our governments give so much of our money away yet seem to spend so little here its hard to make sense of a situation where the poor and homeless remain yet our government can give so generously.

Personally I think it is a way that they justify the high levels of taxes we pay to them after all you do not see our governments lowering taxes because we have paid them too much do you .

Of course the obvious question is are they giving it away or do they make money by loaning some of these countries our money and when if ever are we likely to see some sort of payback for all this money sometime never would be my guess.

  • Because, no 1 Alistair Darling and Gordon Brown comitted us to giving 7% GDP to overseas aid and we can't really pull out of it.

No 2 Although we are not in the Euro and don't really want to be, if the Eurozone falls over so do we, they are major trading partners and could pull us down with them.

Want to see real poverty, I mean as in the 1930's depression? join the queue for the soup kitchens?

Then sit back and do nothing!

There is also the point that if we ourselves fall over hopefully they will help us!

It is no good producing anything if we cannot sell it and if our only market place was domestic inflation would go through the roof so we need to bring in money from abroad, a lot of the aid that we dish out comes back to us through trade for our businesses, which keeps us in employment, no trade no jobs!

That's the way the world works!

The UK government of any persuasion gives millions to foreign countries without first asking the people's permission. In fact the British are so generous when it comes to giveing our money away. Just look at the benefits we are giving to foreigners abroad. Child benefit to claimants in Poland nonetheless. And now unemployment benefit to EU members who come to UK without having to reside here for a minimum 12 months. And then the BBC hold charities like Red Nose Day in oder for the British public to dig even deeper in their pockets to try to save the world from poverty. Britains are the most generous nation on the planet - whether they like it or not.

We've got a right little do-gooder on this one, given half a chance he'd have us all shacked as slaves for the past crimes of this country, Jesus wept give me strength, if wasn't for countries like this one, half the worlds population would still be living their lives in the year dot.

But in answer to your question like the do-gooder says its not really our money, its money we are borrowing to give somebody else.

We can't carry on like this its unsustainable, this government constantly harps on about how the last Labour government spent money it didn't have, and yet this government wants to give it away.

Because we do nothing about it

Every protest we have results in the press calling for water cannons to be used and people blindly agreeing with them and hating protests complaining about the costs and damage instead of focusing on the real reason for the protests

All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing

First they came for the Jews

and I did not speak out - because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for the communists

and I did not speak out - because I was not a communist.

Then they came for the trade unionists

and I did not speak out - because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for me -

and by then there was no one left to speak out for me.

After more EU economies ask for bale outs UK will have no more money left and will be asking Pakistan et al for handouts, the question is will they get anything in return, I doubt it !!

  • 1 decade ago

Because if you let the EU collapse, there ain't gonna be any money left in the UK in the first place? While you're at it, send some money to me too.

They appear to be afraid of the dominoes effect.

If one european countrys economy collapses it could have a disastrous knock-on effect on us.

It won't change anything, well I don't think it will.

Europe has been "ropey" for a while now.

Iceland started the ball rolling & it hasn't settled yet.
