    48÷2(9+3) --------------------------------------------> 48 ÷ 2 * 12 = 48 / 24 = 2

    48÷2(9+3) = 2

You start with the parenthesis () than you start from the left and go to the right so you divide 48 by two. Then because there is nothing between the 2 and parenthesis it is multiplication. so you multiply 12 and 24 and you get 228

    48/2(9+3)=

    48/2 x 12=

    24 x 12 = 228

    The statement is:

    X/Y(a+b)

    It is MISINTERPRETED as:

X / (Y(a+b)) Even I made this mistake when I first did it, BUT....

The correct way to calculate this is to distribute the X/Y factor across the entire parenthesis. So it would look like:

    X/Y(a) + X/Y(b)

    Using numbers:

    48/2(9) + 48/2(3) =

    24(9) + 24(3) =

    216 + 72 =

    288.

I hope that answered your question.

All of these other clowns are wrong.

Follow the PMDAS(parenthesis, multiplication, division, addition, subtraction)

    48/2(12)

    48/12

    =2. Multiplication before division.
