smoking and pregnancy?

My Granddaughter is pregnant, she is also a smoker of cigarettes. The family has been trying to discourage her from this habit. She told us that her doctor told her that she should not try and quit now , cause it would be to stressful for her and the baby, and could cause her to miscarry, she is a high risk . But I do not believe that the doctor told her this. I dislike the fact that I don't believe her and I want to. But I think this is just something she is telling us so we will get off her back about the smoking. So my question is " Do you think she is blowing smoke up our butts" I do. Thank you, concerned Great Grandma.

My Dr. told me not to quit. Quitting causes stress and will harm the

baby. So I cut back to 5-7 a day. The result. 3 pregnancies, 3 big

and healthy babies. Between 8.11 lbs and 7.9 lbs. All because I listened to my Dr. His advice benefited my children.

Most doctors won't recommend a woman who is pregnant to quit cold turkey because withdrawal symptoms will affect the health of the baby

Doctors will recommend that a pregnant woman cut back on the cigarettes until she no longer feels the urge for a cigarette

She will need to cut back anyway because she can't smoke around a newborn, smoking is such an ugly habit and a pregnant smoker shows really bad character

Its a proven fact that quitting smoking cold turkey can take its toll on a pregnancy - its sort of a catch 22 - I'd be willing to bet that he did in fact tell her this - on the one hand she doesn't want to stress her body out so much that she end up loosing the pregnancy altogether but on the other hand its obviously better for the fetus for her to quit - its a no win sometimes

  • My midwife told me not to quit straight away, cause the stress would cause more damage than smoking. She told me to gradually cut down and then quit. So the chances are that yes the doctor did tell her that.

My midwives were always at me to quit they told me to just cut down first so i did then quit all together so i cut down more and more then just nipped it in the bud completely. I recon your grand daughter just doesn't want to quit. No one will make her she has to want to quit.
