What upsets people more witches or pagan?

I have some friends on a local interfaith council. They consider themselves Wiccan -- pagan witches. They said that the people on the council seemed much more upset that they considered themselves pagan, than they were about them being witches. Why do you suppose that is? Which bothers you more witches or pagans?

Witchcraft is a set of practices, and is not tied directly to any specific religion. There are witches of most every faith around.

Pagan, on the other hand, although still a vague term (there are many, many different Pagan religions), still denotes a religious path which is not of the Abrahamic traditions.

    I'm a Wiccan, myself.

All Wiccans are pagan, but not all pagans are Wiccan. Much like all Baptists are Christian, but not all Christians are Baptist.

Wicca is one of many pagan religions.

Witchcraft is a practice, a set of skills, quite literally, a craft. It is not a religion in and of itself. Following the religion of Wicca does not automatically make one a witch. Witchcraft isn't religion specific - it can be practiced within almost any religion, or a practitioner may not follow any particular religion at all.

Why would any label someone wants to slap on themselves bother me at all?

Neither, Witches, Pagans, Muslims, Catholics, Mormons, and Jews, and any body else who wants to believe in whatever they want to has a Right to worship whatever or who ever they want. That's why our founding fathers said "Freedom of Religion or Freedom of No religion" Its a good thing that Thomas Jefferson one of our founding fathers said.."Separation of Church and State"

This is a free country and people are allowed to Worship and Practice What ever they want.

Otherwise we would be like the other backward countries where people are always killing each other off in the name of God. I in agreement with Thomas Jefferson about people doing and worshiping whatever or whomever they want and so I am not offended by anyone or anyone that chooses not to be part of any particular credence.

Probably pagans, because christianity is almost 100% derived from paganism, and the churches have tried to suppress that for centuries.

I identify myself as a Wiccan, even though I don't practice witchcraft so it doesn't bother me!

They don't upset me as much as I feel embarrassed for them. It's kind of like if you knew someone who believed in leprechauns and you want to laugh but you know they'll get all butthurt and make you miserable if you do so you just pretend to respect them.
