Contractors get penalized 4 tardiness. What happens when Congress can't complete their budget? Penalties?

Most contractors receive stiff penalties when they do not deliver on a contract on time.

But what happens when Congress can't do their job of passing a budget? Do they lose their pay raise that year or get a fine like a tardy baseball player? And why are we paying them if they can't pass a budget or balance it?

Kinda like paying some guy to clean your driveway but at the end of the day its no better than when he started. Do you pay HIM?

Jesse Ventura said it best the other day on the View ... until PEOPLE STOP VOTING for Democrats and Republicans and select the OTHERS .. NOTHING will change!

But even though they are NOW the Republicrats they STILL can't seem to agree on a budget compromise. How much would we save if we asked Congress NOT to come to work until they can pass a budget! Betcha THAT would get them back to work!

Update:

Halliburton getting away with fraud, you say? I'm sure Halliburton lives up to the "contract" but it is up to Congress to write smarter contracts. But how can they do this since they are purposely giving money to their allies? By having a PRIVATE overseeing group That ONLY replies to Congress but also has total power to investigate at ALL levels. This Private Overseer Group (PSG) would be formed by the President of his most trusted advisers and they would reply directly to the President first and then to Congress. The PSG would be in charge of signing off on all new contracts, without which the contrct would become null and void within a specified period of time. Any other thoughts on this?

It should be viewed as a slap in every citizens face! It is the ultimate in irresponsibility, and politicizes the most basic of issues. California has been faced with issue for many years. It finally passed a law that states, in general, if a budget is not passed be a certain date 1) All legislators lose all income and benefits until the date of passage. 2) the senate / house cannot take any vacation or holidays off... it must remain in session.

It is a good way of dealing with a bad situation. Make the simple act of delay painful to all parties.

More often than not that is not the case. Many, like Haliburton during the bush chenny received more money without ever finishing projects. Which contractors get penalized? Very few Im sure.

If contractors wrote the rules of their contract the way congress passes the laws of it's conduct, contractors who were late would receive compensation for their lateness and get to change their bids as they went along.

They get a finger pointing and possibly some low poll numbers then when election time comes, for every 1 scum bag congressman there are thousands who vote for him, so in the end nothing happens

They have no sense of reality. Most of our career politicians grew up being groomed for politics. They've never had to work real jobs or balance their own budgets.
