Why do no two Christians answer the same?

Whenever there's a question about Christianity, you invariably get many different answers from people all claiming to be 'Christians'. How can these people all believe that they are absolutely right when they can't even agree with each other about the basics of their belief system?

I know this sounds crazy, but it's almost as if their instruction books are written so vaguely and contradict themselves so many thousands of times that anyone who reads them and claims to be a 'believer' can cherry-pick parts of it and build their own Christianity to suit their own prejudices and sanction their own actions... I know... that would be ludicrous....

Update:

The best part is how many different answers I'm getting even for THIS question:

"Because you can't define God"

"Because they're from different denominations"

"Because we have free will"...

etc... etc...

Just more proof that you all believe what you want (or make up on the spot) and later, go back and reinterpret your book fit your own answer...

    It's because of the bible they use. It is so poorly assembled and garbled that it has over 38,000 denominations of Christianity that have formed because of it.

    We would all have our different opinions on that, also.

    Personally, I think that since the reformation, people who follow the Bible only do not consider the writings of the early church fathers as relevant. Many do not see these writings as an aid into not only examining your own soul, but examining the Scriptures.

    Truth is, however, many of the early church fathers didn't agree on everything, either, but certainly there was more coherence to the understanding of Scriptures than there is today.

    Edit: "Just more proof that you all believe what you want (or make up on the spot) and later, go back and reinterpret your book fit your own answer... "

    Excuse me...YOUR book? Rather condescending of you.

    Further, humans are not all the same; we all experience God in different ways. That I find peace and joy in Eastern Orthodox practices and teachings does not mean that everyone will, especially if they are of a Western mindset. It helps that I am Eastern European in ancestry; many Christians are Anglo-Saxon or Mediterranean. We all just don't have the same thought process; if we did, democracy would be easy to set up in Afghanistan.

    First many don't read their Bibles, and instead answer based on their "feelings". Second when "Christians" answer, you're going to get Catholics in there, whose doctrine is vastly different from Christianity. Then you get all the different Protestant denominations, some which have adopted and compromised with society's views...and teach the new "social" gospel (which is just that, more "socially" acceptable, the "prosperity" gospel (God wants everybody to be rich), the "purpose-driven" gospel etc...

    No it isn't crazy, it down right demoralizing and seemingly hopeless at times. As a christian(and one that reads their Bible and STUDIES it) it is difficult to watch so many christians either take the Bible out of context, or twist it ever so slightly to serve their purpose. The Bible is very specific when it comes to our present condition, what we need to do about it, how we go about it, and the way God wants us to live. Many churches today have made Jesus a minor figure in the Bible, because He is the one who doesn't allow for compromise. It is ok and even somewhat "vogue" these days to profess belief or faith in some "God". Also, "all religions worship the same God, they just have different names for Him", is a modern-day lie that is slowly being accepted by the world.

    The devil has twisted God's Word from the beginning (Genesis 3:1)..."Yea. hath God REALLY said..." and he continues to do it today with great success. I could go on , but really, as christians get further from Christ, they get more confused and more easily influenced by the world.

    We sound confused because we have compromised with the world, so much that the Word is no longer distinguishable.

    I apologize on behalf of all of us for making Christ's sacrifice something that it isn't.

    If you want the most crucial, pivotal, CLEAR, statement in the Bible it is when Jesus said:

    "I am the way, the truth and the life; no man cometh unto the Father but by me (John 14:6)".

    Humans are fallible sinners, Jesus wasn't. He should always be the focus of Christians in their walk, and of non-Christians who are searching for the truth.

    I don't believe I'm absolutely right. I'll admit there are many things about God's will that I do not know, but I do my best to read the Bible and ferret out the truth. However I'm non-denominational, so I have no vested interest in proving one denomination right over another. Most denominations compete with each other for membership and therefore must convince their congregations that their way is the only correct way, or they risk losing members to other churches with more personable pastors. Oddly enough, the church I attend doesn't do this. Maybe it's because our pastor is gregarious enough that we don't have to worry about people leaving for a different church.

    Man is fallible God is not it would be better if you went to God.

    There are more false Christians then real ones as many rather compromise or choose whatever they want to believe in then that which is Righteous Truth, God's Word He is Truth.

    you're joking right?

    Obviously you have NEVER opened up a book on Christian theology!

    In almost every doctrine there are a number of ways to discern the text(s) to try and figure out God's true meaning.

    The reason this is so difficult is because we CANNOT DEFINE GOD !

    There are many who claim to be christian who are not;

    then there are various degrees of growth, nobody knows everything and all are learning and growing;

    many depend on doctrines and not on Christ;

    without knowing God and his word you will get mixed up

    Just because a person professes to be a Christian doesn't mean that he/she is a Christian. Many say that they are Christians but have no idea what it means to be a Christian. The reason why they can't agree is because they base their teachings on traditions of men instead of the Bible. This is why Jesus said that there will be many calling upon his name claiming to be Christians and he will tell them, get away from me you workers of lawlessness.

    Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone saying to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter into the kingdom of the heavens, but the one doing the will of my Father who is in the heavens will. 22 Many will say to me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in your name, and expel demons in your name, and perform many powerful works in your name?’ 23 And yet then I will confess to them: I never knew YOU! Get away from me, YOU workers of lawlessness.

    because our faith in Christ is not defined by a ritualistic and carbon copy application of the principles contained within it, or found in the bible.
