Here are some hockey questions for all of you?

With the regular season ending in due time (less than 24 hours now boys and girls), here are some questions for you to ponder?

1) Drew Stafford broke out this year with 31 goals in 62 games (that's a 41 goal pace). Fluke, or not?

2) Sergei Fedorov started his career on fire with 6 point a game seasons to start his career before getting only 1 more in the bext 12 seasons, possibly costing him a Hall of Fame position (lower pts/game than Gilmour for example). Will Ovechkin bounce back next season, or will he pull a Fedorov the rest of his career? (the 2 Hart Trophies probably guarantee Ovechkin's place in the Hall of Fame regardless of what he does the rest of his career)

3) Will Ilya Kovalchuk in the future be the Ilya we saw in Hotlanta and the last 40 games (38 points) this year or the Ilya we saw in the short-lived John MacLean era of the Devils?

4) Will Corey Perry ever win another Richard Award?

5) We saw a LOT of good rookies this season, so much so that everybody (including Yahoo! Answers participants) wants to give the Calder to somebody different (cross fingers for John Carlson). Of this year's bumper crop..................who will have the best career? Who will we be talking about in 5 years when we say...whatever happened to 'X', he had such a good rookie season?

To those who are fans of teams in the playoffs.......good luck, now the real season begins!

Update:

My thoughtful answers

1) I think Stafford can be a solid 30 goal man'

2) Ovechkin will avoid the Fedorov curse

3) Somewhere in between

4) Nope, this is it!

5a) Cam Fowler

5b) Tyler Seguin

Update 2:

VIP - it takes 14 of 18 votes to get into the HHOF, I know 4 right now who won't vote for Fedorov because of his last 12 seasons, especially the ones after he left Detroit.

Update 3:

Zap - I saw that..............it was good to see Tampa put a beating on Carolina in Raleigh. I guess I'm just a bigger Rangers fan than a Canes fan.

    1. fluke

    2. fedorov for the rest of his career. hopefully worse.

    3. dunno, if he keeps trying he'll be what we saw the last 40 games. he's got the talent.

    4. probly not. maybe. i dunno. thats up to him.

    5. if its carlson, i will literally get on someones shoulders and **** on their head. (preferably that big-mouthed slimeball ********* they call a coach)

anyways, i was leaning towards grabner earlier this season, but after watching corey crawford lately i gotta go with him. he leads in all of the goalie stats except for save % (even still, he's only 2nd). thats pretty good.

    1. No fluke, he can be a very decent player, I don't think he'll have multiple 30 goal years but I think he can have 1 or 2 more.

    2. Ovechkin will defiantly bounce back without a doubt, he probably won't against the Rangers in the first round because for some reason he never really scores on Lundqvist to much but he will defiantly have a good 40-55 goal season next year.

    3. I think Ilya will have a couple more 30-40 goal seasons but that's it.

    4. Nope. Simple, if Crosby(As much as I hate him) had stayed around this year he would have easily have won it, and any one can beat Perry for that award.

    5. Jeff Skinner and Derek Stepan(Not saying cause I'm a ranger fan) Skinner very young, very talented, all I have to say, and stepan who is a very smart player and can be a future leader for the rangers.

    1) no fluke, he's a very talented player helped out by a very talented Buffalo supporting cast.

    2) Ovechkin is too much of a competitor to fall into the Federov boat. Federov was a hotshot superstar that didn't work hard enough. Ovechkin works his *** off every night and won't be denied. If theirs something that needs fixing in his game, he'll do whatever it takes to fix it.

    3) I think his numbers in NJ will never reach the Atlanta numbers because of the Devils system. Very defensively oriented with few goals, Not an ideal place for someone to put up big time numbers.

    4) I won't rule out another 50 goal season, but I think it's safe to say he won't win another Richard Award. A down year for scorers this year first of all, and second there are too many better scorers then him in the league for it to happen again.

    5) a. Cam Fowler

    b. Jeff Skinner

    1. Not, he has a scorers touch and there is no reason he ant continue to be a solid goal scorer.

    2. Are you saying Fedorov's Hart (and Selke in the same season...never been done before) along with his incredible playoff numbers, Stanley Cups and international record isnt good enough to get in? Gilmour is no Fedorov!

    3. Kovy suffered badly under MacLean and I suspect in part the contract weighed very heavily on him. A proven scorer and now with the burden of the contract behind him I can see a return to elite scorer status...a healthy Parise can only help him simply because teams have to respect another quality scorer.

    4. Too many snipers out there so I dont see another Richard in his future.

    5. Best career....who knows but obviously Hall could be but I happen to love the pure skating ability of Skinner and can see him really becoming something special.

Whatever happened to?.....Grabner, the guy came out of virtually nowhere and I wouldnt be shocked if he faded off quickly.

Very exciting time of the year. Good luck to all the teams....the true beauty of hockey is the champion IS always the best team. You cant win 16 times in the playoffs if you arent!

    1) Thought Staff would have this breakout two years ago. Happy it's happened and he will continue at that level.

    2) Trading stats for cups is a decision a lot of elite players are faced with at some point in their careers. With that said, Ovechkin is a more dynamic offensive player and will post bigger numbers than Fedorov who, was a far more well-rounded than Ovie.

    3) All evidence points to MacLean being the blip in Kovalchuk's mojo. Playing within a system has to curtail some of the heaping helpings of opportunities he had in Atlanta. A lot depends on who coaches the team next year and what his philosophy will be.

    4) I don't think so, unless the 40-goal mark qualifies in any future race.

    5) Always more impressed with rookie d-men that can handle NHL competition, particularly those who step right in out of junior or college. Guys like Carlson, Fowler and McDonough, to a lesser extent. Skinner is the real deal, though. He can skate with anyone, has the hand skills and awareness, too. If he doesn't suffer any serious injuries he will be the most explosive offensive force out of the group.

Really happy with Stepan, too AND my boys are going to the dance, LITY!

    Hope all's well with you.

EDIT: I never gave you a 5b. You may be right with Seguin, given the hype he came in with. On the other side of the coin, I also forgot to mention Shattenkirk. His offensive numbers are at the top of rookie d-men and he'll get the minutes to round out his defensive play.

  • 1) Stafford could be a 25-30 goal scorer...not exactly a bad thing!

    2) I worry about him because he missed a few games because of injuries and I've worried about him breaking down physically because of how he plays the game.

    3) Depends on who NJD hire as a coach. I can see him being a 35-45 goal scorer (depending on who they hire and how things shake out with regard to their roster).

    4) Stamkos faded, Crosby missed the last 3+ months, Ovechkin had a career low, Kovalchuk had a bad year. Don't see that happening again. Again, if Perry becomes a consistent 35-40 goal scorer that's pretty darn good!

    5) n/a

    1. No fluke, he worked hard pre-season to lose some weight and it shows. He will have multiple 30 goal season but will never break the 40 mark.

    2. Bounce back, a more defensive style has cost his scoring. ( even though he still is doing good.)

3.50:50 still not worth his contract IMO

    4.No.

    5.a)Tyler Ennis :P

    b)Sequin

    1) No Fluke

    2)I think Ovechkin might...

3)Yes he will, with the return of Parise and if the coaching stays at the same quality level I think so

    4) Yeah I agree with you, not again. I dont think hell break 50 ever again

    5) a) Taylor Hall (Best Career)/ Skinner (Calder, and decent career)

    b)Alexander Burmistrov
