What comic/graphic novel characters are similar to Jonah Hex?
Me and a friend read a graphic novel in late 1996. It's plot/setting is very VERY similar to Jonah Hex. I still think it was a Jonah Hex story, but we both want to say that people referred to him as "Preacher" or something like that (no, not Priest, we checked for that) but the issues we read he went into Hell and shot the Devil a few times and escaped or left or something. I wish I could remember more, the title or who the publisher was. I want to say it may have been DarkHorse or Image.
Please help...we've been trying to figure this out since we saw the previews for Hex.

I sounds like you are talking about "Preacher" from Vertigo Comics (imprint of DC Comics). That title was published from 1995 to 2000. The main character, Jesse (aka Preacher), does not shoot the Devil. It was another character called "Saint of Killers" who was modeled after Clint Eastwood's character in "Unforgiven." The Saint of Killers shoots the Devil after the Devil insults him and, unfortunately, after the Devil makes him guns that can kill anyone. Not too smart on the Devil's part.
