Is defending yourself disobeying the Bible?

I don't think so. Personally, if somebody wanted to fight me, I would be reluctant, but if he started swinging, I'd probably let him have it. I would call that self defense, and I don't think God would be mad at somebody defending themselves.

This is counsel from the Bible itself

the Bible indicates that there is a time to defend oneself. Christians may ward off physically aggressive attacks against themselves, their families, or others in genuine need of defense.

But they would not initiate an attack, nor would they physically retaliate to save their possessions. They would not carry weapons in anticipation of such an attack; rather, they endeavor to “live peaceably.”

Slavery in the old world was a result of war and it was sort of a war camp Slaves would be owned by enslavers (victorious army) to take care of them in return for services (similar to today's prisons where prisoners do services too for many reasons is to learn a profession and also be useful and exercises) Since there could not have a war camp, as it was not feasible those days But the treatment of slaves was what made a slavery system civilized or not for example Islam came and slavery system had always existed Islam does not encourage Slavery but at the same time did not free it one and for all as it would have disrupted the society but it introduced regulations to ensure the abolition of slavery treat them as you would treat your own family feed, cloth the same food and cloth educate them, and teach a profession so they can make a living and free themselves encourage them to be free in case a person commits a sin, freeing a slave was a good deed to outbalance the sin if you hurt the slave even with one slap in the face then you should free the salve never overburden them with work, should be normal work that an employee would do etc but unfortunately these rules were not strictly used but also in the history of egypt there was a dynasty that ruled foe many decades that descended from slaves (Mamaleek)

If not, you should remember that A) we only have four cheeks to be slapped and anyone taking a fifth shot is liable for whatever retaliation we may feel it necessary to dish out; and B) Heaping coals of fire on someone's head does not always work.
