VETERANS BENEFITS FOR SPOUSE?

Asking this question for someone who does not have an account. Thanks in advance all.

The veteran and wife were separated, but never legally divorced. He died recently, and she could use the help (he never paid child support). The kids are grown and in a few years she will retire, are there any spousal benefits due her?

He was collecting military benefits after he was fired from the police department because he lost his pension. He was a Vietnam Viet who came back home only to be very physically abusive to his family. Probably had untreated PTSD is there any help for her?

All Viets and military family answers appreciated - he discharged honorably from the US Air Force.

Update:

I HAD TO ADD THIS FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO CANNOT READ - I don't want his life insurance because I'm asking the question on behalf of someone - Please if you have no answer don't reply otherwise I'm reporting it. And thanks for the normal honest answers.

There are NO Veterans Benefits for Her or the Kids...

Doubt if he kept his SGLI Insurance...???

There are VERY FEW jobs in the AF that would

    produce Combat PTSD Symptoms...

Just because a an EX Service member becomes ABUSIVE

does not mean that He/She has PTSD...

There are four ways she could get benefits. 1. If he had any life insurance through the VA (Veterans Group Life Insurance, VGLI). 2. If he was receiving money from the VA for 100% Service-Connection Disability. 3. He was receiving any % of disability AND died as a result of THAT disability. 4. She could qualify for Pension. She might not qualify now, but she could in the future.

She needs to take their marriage certificate, his DD214, and his death certificate to an organization for assistance. I would encourage her to go to a State Veterans Commission office. (Search your state and Veterans Commission and you'll get results. Every state has one.)

GI bill at the instant is for the advert member or Veteran in uncomplicated terms, it can't be transferred to the dependents. the only time it may be carried out is that if he grew to become into one hundred% disabled or has died in provider. they're changing it the place it extremely is transferred to the companion or little ones yet it extremely is on the market that they are in for 10 years and that's a constrained volume. He can use his GI bill himself yet he can't circulate it to you. there is a few provides you or scholarships which you would be able to desire to be waiting to prepare for yet there is no assure you will get it. definite it style of feels hard and harsh yet it extremely is a factor of the militia. they're decrease than no criminal duty to the dependents to offer the funds for an education. The GI bill grew to become into set up especially for the GI so they could get an education to greater powerful themselves and kin life. it extremely isn't any longer the GI kin bill it extremely is the GI bill.

the only thing she would get would be any Disability pay he was receiving from the VA.

Have your friend take his military paperwork (DD214, it's his whole military life), their marriage certificate, and any other important info to a VA office and see if they can help her, or try a VFW
