How Long Will a Honda Civic last?
My Pontiac broke down this weekend and I'm looking to buy a 2005 Honda Civic VP sedan. I really like the car but the only thing that worries me is that is has 190k miles on it which is more than what my old car had when it died. I know a Honda will last a lot longer than a Pontiac but I need to make sure this car will last at least 3 more years perferably 5+ years.
There is also an 2001 Honda Civic LX sedan I'm looking at with only 90k miles on it but its 4 years older and I've read reviews that say that the 2001 Civics have serious transmission problems and if buying a used one you should see if it's already had the trasnmission changed. I checked the carfax and asked the dealer and it has NOT had it changed and I really cant afford to replace it a year or 2 after buying this car.

I had old civic years ago that had 350,000 miles on it. It was like a 1980's something. But I have heard of civics getting 3-5 hundred thousand or more miles.
It depends on how well the cars have been taken care of, the high mileage one is probably highway miles. Also depends on how many miles you drive now, if you drive a lot of miles I'd go with the lower milaged one.

Better late than never. The longevity of cars will all shorten with the addition of ethanol. We're seeing a fight now by the auto industry against ethanol 15 because while cars are breaking down faster now, all heck will break loose with 15%. Ethanol ironically uses more oil to make (it's not cheaper for your engine) and will break down critical components faster. So, perhaps a better answer is they may last forever but you will be paying a lot more on maintenance.
I'm able to use regular gas in my motorcycle but after 1000 miles (it had 6000 when I bought it), it's chugging. Components and gaskets are breaking down. Even in my own car, at about 110,000 miles, I had to replace two leaking antifreeze gaskets to the tune of $1800 last year. Costs are going up which is good for the repair industry and corn subsidies but horrendous for the consumer.

They suck because if the transmission. A junkyard will sell you a replacement for $700 but it risky too. thats if all the Ricers didn't snatch em all up first
car goes for a long time thou.
