Panzer is a German word that means tank.
Tiger tanks - Panzer Mark VI design of tanks.
Panther tanks - Panzer Mark V tanks.
Tiger tanks were bigger and haevier, with a larger gun and more armour. The Tiger I and the Tiger II (known as the King or Royal Tiger) were the 2 different designs.
Panther tanks, being lighter and with a smaller gun were faster and more manouverable.
As to who had the best tanks:
The Tiger II had a gun/armour combination that wouldn't be out of place on a modern battlefield. However, its size meant that it was seriously underpowered and slow, and all German tanks introduced from 1942 onwards suffered from a high rate of mechanical breakdown. There were less than 500 Tiger IIs made,so it was never available in sufficient numbers to make a real difference in strategic terms on the battlefield, and was only available from mid 1944 onwards.
.
I would therefore say that the Russian T-34 was the best tank of WW2.Rugged,fast, simple to operate and maintain, mechanically reliable, capable of operating in all weather and over all terrain, although not as heavily armed and armoured as later German tanks, the T-34 still possessed a sufficient gun/armour combination that meant it was no pushover in tank to tank combat.Further, the T-34 served in large numbers throughout the war from 1941-1945; during the Fourth Battle of Kharkov in August 1944 the Russians lost more T-34s in one 36 hour period than the Germans built Tiger IIs in the whole war.

Panzer III's and IV's were the smallest of the German tanks, Panther tanks were built to replace the Panzer IV, but Panzer IV's were still used until the end of the war. The Tiger and King Tiger tanks were the largest tanks in the German Wermacht. Germany had the best tanks for most of the war, but the Russian T-34 proved to be a good match for the German tanks as it was well armored and much faster the German tanks.

All German tanks were panzers--"panzer" is just the German word for tank. The most widely produced of the 3 main ones was the Mk IV, which sometimes gets referred to, generically as a "Panzer," the Panther was the Mk V panzer, and the Tiger I was the Mk VI panzer.
As the Panther was designed based on lessons learned from the Russian T-34, especially the sloping armor, I think most people would consider it, at least design-wise, to be the best overall medium tank of the war. However, like the Tiger, it was not produced in sufficient numbers, and was more complicated and had more maintenance problems than the simpler, more robust T-34. My opinion is that the best overall tank in all categories would be the Russian T-34/85, which mounted the 85 mm gun. As already mentioned, the Tigers, while impressive in armor and armament, were slow, had lots of breakdowns, and were not produced in sufficient numbers to overcome the vast hordes of Russian T-34s and American-built Shermans that they had to face.

the panzer series started with a simple tank armed with a 7.92mm machine gun. the panzer 4(there were four iterations of panzer tanks) was the most widely produced tank in germany during ww2. it had a 75mm gun. the panther was the best tank produced during ww2. it was quite complex; but a very good design. it had a hi velocity 75mm gun. the tiger series had massive armor, and an 88mm gun. the soviet t-34 outlasted all of them. it was simple, rugged, and may even be in service today as the t-34/85. the t-34 was produced as much , if not more than the sherman tank.

A panzer is just a word for a German Tank. A panther was a medium tank that was way before its time. A Tiger was huge massive tank also way before its time.
Russia. T-34s were on par with Panthers, but much simpler to maintain, operate, and produce.
