Wall mains socket problem , help please?
I have a wall mains socket which has been playing up, when I flick the switch it comes on but half a second or so later it goes off.
When I just press the top of the switch in a bit and let go it comes back on and stays on.
I thought it had a loose connection and seemed to when I took it off the other day so I tightened all the wires back in but it's still doing it.
Has something worn with age ?
Anybody have any idea what it is please ?
It's pretty old so I'm going to replace it anyway.

It's the switch mechanism that knackered. Just replace the socket and it'll be sorted.
If it's a metal backbox then make sure you connect the back box to the earth cable.

Yes, it's the mechanical bits of the switch mechanism which are worn. Easy to replace, as already said, just needs a new front.

The socket is fine. The SWITCH is faulty. Replace the switch and the problem should go away.

May be the enclosed metal contacts inside the switch? Replace the switch.

In engineering terms "Ya switch is knackered",knock your power off & replace the socket front...

Sounds like a short in your connections somewhere - I would have it checked could be a fire hazard
