Are there any restaurants that seat you with random people you don't know?

I think I've heard of something like this but I can't think of a way to phrase it so that search engines understand, nor do I remember the name. Any of such plcaes would be good, whether it be a chain or a restaurant unique to one city/state/country. I would love to do something like this.

Update:

It would be a very interesting social experience.

It's called "community tables" but I still think you will have a hard time searching for it. For one thing, I don't think it's advertised much. In my neighborhood, there are some restaurants that have bigger tables that sit people at these community tables. Usually it's for when there is a wait for regular tables.

"Family style" is when the food is served like you would eat at home. In a large container or plate that is passed around and everyone scoops what they want.

I've been to a couple of local restaurants in the Netherlands that did this; you greet everyone when you're seated. Most places I've been just seat you at your own table. One of the restaurants my company uses for lunch here in Italy is something like this, but you seat yourself at community tables - it's like a cafeteria style.

I think they call it "family style" It's very European because they're all weird and over-populated and crowded
