I do not use the 2x2 weave method. My dogs see the all 12 upright weaves from the very beginning. They are taught entrances first via the around the clock method. The are taught the weaving itself with clicker and treat. I would not necessarily work on distance with the weaves if the dog does not understand the the concept of weaving itself. Distance comes a little later.
The way I've tried to explain the method that I use, works for me with my current dog and has worked for me with my past dogs. My dogs are excellent weavers.

the biggest project i have considered with training Border Collies some thing in agility is slowing them down as a fashion to take heed to and concentrate on my guidelines. Weaves are the element they are apt to goof up on, so i attempt to inform vendors to coach the "open" weave and the astounding the front and not in any respect throw nutrients on the floor prior to the dogs. continually feed out of your hand, no longer the floor and also you received't have a project with sniffing to locate treats. I initiate with the weaves on a 40 5 degree perspective and gradually flow them into an upright position, continually focusing on perfection particularly than %. No think about training % in case your dogs has a tendency to come back out of the weaves beforehand. % counts, yet it is easier to coach then perfection on the kit. Our significant agility instructor became on the international crew.

Susan Garrett is terrific. No need for your dog to work away from you, simply run with it.
