What else can I do for a diaper rash besides desitin?

My daughter is almost 10 months old and she has a diaper rash and when I put Desitin on her, she immediately screams in pain until I wipe it off! Is there anything else I can do for her to help the diaper rash go away? Does anyone know of any reason why the Desitin could be hurting her? Thank you so much!

A lot of creams hurt because of the contact on the sore spots. To help the rash go away, steer clear of wet wipes for a while, wipe gently with a wet washcloth, and let air dry for a minute. Maalox is great to use, and then follow up with a thick cream- triple paste, aquafor, my favorite one to use is the Lansinoh lanolin you use to put on sore nipples. it is a great water barrier, which is a must in helping get rid of diaper rash- always put the water barrier on after every diaper change, as it will help keep the moisture away, and change the diaper often. I use natural based creams, my favorites are a honey based one from Clear Hills Honey, and another from Northern Essence, both bought online. They have all natural ingredients, and have seemed to be less painful for my kids when they had rashes.

Bag Balm. Its technically for cows utters. You can get it at walgreens. Its by far the BEST stuff out there. My daughter had a bleeding diaper rash a this stuff literally cleared it up in a day. One of my hubbys co-workers told us about it. I didnt believe it so I googled it...sure enough..lots of moms use it and say the same..so I tried it and have never used anything else since. I also dont use baby wipes when the rash's are bad..just water on a baby wash cloth and air that booty out as much as possible.

ETA: what Bet said reminded me that the docs office also said I could put neopsporin on her bottom too.

What does her rash look like? If it is pimply or looks like a burn it might be best to take her to the doctor. It is possible that it could be a yeast type infection and she might need a prescription ointment called Nystatin to help it get better. In the meantime try plain Vaseline or A&D ointment instead. Also do not use baby wipes, which can make the rash and burning worse. We used to use the thickest paper towels we could find which were Bounty, along with a bowl of water or spray bottle. Spray the paper towel or wet it, then wipe with that. Pat dry with another one, but don't rub. It might help to change the brand of diapers you are using if your baby gets frequent rashes. I had one daughter who could only tolerate Pampers.

My daughter had the same problem. She had blisters on her behind from a rash from huggies diapers. (found out she was allergic) Anyhow, when she would sit she screamed in pain and a cool bath she would not sit or let water touch it.. Only way to help her was to let her go without a diaper until bed time and I put a thin layer of neosporin with pain relief on it. I had to fight with her but once it was on her she did better and she cleared up within a day or so. Good luck, hope it goes away quick!

Poor Petal, Obviously extremely sore. If you can Mom, use cotton wool and water when you clean her instead of wipes, pat her dry and give her some air time if it's possible. I know you have the chance of accidents but if you can keep her in a kitchen or play in the bathroom where you have an easily cleanable surface then try that. Otherwise i would take a trip to the Docs to see if they can recommend a good alternative cream. Here in the UK we use Sudo Cream. Good luck!

Try not to use wipes for some time, instead rinse her with warm water, pat dry.

California baby diaper area creme, or you may try Vaseline.

And let her skin to be on the air for 5-6 minutes or as long as you can.

I rarely use wipes, unless we are out and having "#2" accident.

My pediatrician recommended putting a thin layer of Maalox or Mylanta (yes, the antacid) on the baby's bottom with a cotton ball and let it dry. It will turn white when it dries. Then apply the diaper cream of your choice. We have had good success with Triple Paste. It's expensive, but that's because it works really well.

try baby powder, put her on a towel and keep the diaper off of her for a bit. Desitin usually does the trick. I always put baby powder on my daughter after wiping her and shes never gotten diaper rash. good luck :)

When my son had severe diaper rash, the dr told me to put the thick triple paste ointment on it, then put vaseleine on top of that. The triple paste didn't burn him, but he didn't like me rubbing that burned area which you can't help when applying the ointment. He healed really fast with that. The triple paste is in the pharmacy area I think.
