My husband has a mom and a step mom and our toddler is confused what to call them. Help?

Our almost 3 year old is getting confused when we say " your going to see grandma and grandpa!" He never knows which one we're talking about unless I show him a picture. What do you call two different sets of grandparents?

I call mine (as I am in the same situation as your kid) Grandma (first name) and grandpa (first name). Like grandma loise, or grandpa jack. Or they can be different, like one be "grandma" and the other one be "granny". Or "grandpa" and "papa".

It's always just been a known fact here, for our son, that he has a two grandmas and one grandpa. My mom, by virtue of being closest and the one we see the most, has been simply "Grandma" and my husband's parents have been Grandma and Grandpa LastName. But, we also started clarifying very early with "My mom" or "Daddy's Mom" if there was confusion.

Can you append on LastName to use when clarifying?

His mom and dad are your sons grandpa and grandma. So when he goes to see your husbands step mom and dad he could say grandpa and grandma sue..whatever her name is. When he goes to see his actual grandma he calls her grandma. If she is remarried then he is grandpa jack, or whatever his name is. He will pick up on it after a while. He is still young and it will take some time. But eventually "grandpa and grandma sue" he will associate the "sue"part with those two people. When he hears "grandpa jack" he will associate it with those two people. Probably when he gets older. Around 4 he will get it.

My boys have my dad and stepmom, and their dad's parents. Mine are Papa and Nana. Their dads is nanny and craig. I'm sure my 6 yr old would be confused with nanny and nana. Except he knows when he hears craig or papa. He knows which one house he is going to. Then there is my mom who is grandma. I let the grandparents choose what they wanted to be called. My kids Dads father choose to be called Craig. It just works out.

My kids have 4 sets. The one set is Gammy and Pappy, the other 3 are Grandma and Grandpa with their first names.

Take your pick. Go by last name [Grandma Smith] or first name [Grandpa John] or pick different names for them like Gramps and Grandpa, Grandmother and Granny. Or you can even get more creative and make up nicknames for them....

I always called my grandfather Pop.

some people make up nick names for the grandparents so they know what to call them. maybe try looking up nick names or words that mean grandma or grandpa. that is what my nephew has done. http://www.thenewparentsguide.com/grandparents-nic... < here's a site that might help. or lets say your parents last names are Jones or something. Call them grammy and pappy J. ? hope i have helped. :)

Do they have any nicknames? A lot of families have those to differentiate grandparents, aunts uncles.. Could also be as simple as Grandma Mary vs Grandma Sally depending on what their names are.

We have Grandma, and Jomama, who is my husband's stepmom. My mom is also Grandma, but my youngest kids call them Grandma with Jack and Grandma with Toby (their dog's names lol), and they both live in different states, so we associate them with that as well. call them Grandma *Barb* or Grandma *Smith*, pictures are still good to use for association though

My nieces and nephews have a "Grandma" and a "Gran" to make the distinction. My parents are Welsh so my daughter uses the Welsh word for grandmother (Nain). Other variants could be "Granny" or "Nanny" or "Nana". We've found that having different names for the different grandparents just makes it much easier.

My granddaughter calls us all Grandma if we are alone, but when she is talking about me she says Grandma Susan and does the same for her grandmas and great grandmas, by adding our first name to grandma.
