Screen broken due to brother..?

So, my dad bought a 40' Sony Bravia LCD TV a few years back. My 25 year old brother went into a tantrum about a trivial issue and threw a phone at it. The screen is now broken and all types of colors show up when it's turned on. My brother is going to have to pay up, but how much would it cost to be repaired and it is worth getting it repaired or buying a new 40' TV?

    The last one I looked up was almost $1800 so it's cheaper to buy a new one.
