Wha country has the most oppressive regime?

1) North Korea - Citizens are rarely allowed to leave the country and the families of those who do escape are sent to prison camps, some people in the capital Pyongyang have a radio in their house which broadcasts propaganda which you can turn down but not off, listening/viewing foreign broadcasts is illegal and punishable by a prison camp which your whole family can be sent to because of 'guilt by association', needless to say there is no internet. Everyone in North Korea has to have a picture of Kim Jong il and Kim il Sung (leaders) in their home and homes are regularly inspected to check this. It is a truly evil but fascinating regime.

2) Saudi Arabia - a completely islamic place. The country is most oppressive if for female's; they have to cover up almost completely in public, they aren't allowed to drive or leave the house unaccompanied by a male. People get publicly executed for the most minor crimes against religion or religious laws. Yet bizarrely the west has a friendly relationship with Saudi Arabia.

I would say any country with a dictator or strict religious law is oppressive.

There are so many with insignificant differences in Africa and Asia. Northern Korea has to be a top contender, though.

My money would be on the self-proclaimed 'Kingdom of Humanity' - Saudi Arabia. Described best by Henry Kissinger as 'the world's largest open prison'.

North Korea is a good choice. I would add Cuba and Afghanistan as well.
