Are you a Methodist? What is the Methodist way? Is it like Baptist? I was baptized Methodist.?

but I don't really know what it's all about. Is it fire and brimstone?

Update:

I wasn't looking for criticism on anyone's religion. I have studied philosophy for over 30 years. I've just never looked into this particular part of my religious background because it was let go of so early in my life and until now, I had not been curious. I was looking for some facts from real people who study it, live it, know it; not people who are pissed off at their parents or their life.

Update 2:

Oh, and yeah, I don't need to be saved...been there, done that, I know where salvation lies. I know what Atonement REALLY is, and I have been enlightened. I know what I know what I know.

A great line from the film "A River Runs Through It": "Methodists are just Baptists that can read."

I've distanced myself from both. To wit, George Bush, Jr. by no means helped the Methodist cause.

(Baptists tend to be a bit more fiery and brimmy)

Methodism was originally a sort of student study group which John Wesley ran. They were all Anglican, and that's where Methodist beliefs and liturgy come from, for the most part. "Methodist" was originally a disparaging term, because the students were so methodical about their Christianity. Wesley believed in cultivating holiness, and, while the United Methodist Church is a mainline Protestant denomination today, there are other denominations (like the Church of the Nazarene) which are heavily influenced by Wesleys' ideas on holiness.

I was confirmed as a Methodist, and our church was heavy on the fire and brimstone, but that church was crazy and eventually split from the UMC to become their own fundamentalist church.

What difference does it make? I went through this with my family. The Lord told me to tell them,"It is not important what denomination it is. It is the message that is being delivered". So, if they teach whole Bible and not what makes them feel good then go. If they leave out Hell then you better run from them b/c they are not preaching the truth. Would rather hear what makes you feel good and lead you straight to the gates of Hell or would you rather hear the unadulterated truth and be lead to the gates of Heaven? It is that simple. Any church that picks and chooses what they want to preach and pleases man is not a church of God and is an abomination to The Lord. If you want a church that makes you feel good and will lie to you to get your money then why bother at all to go to church. You can sit at home and lie to yourself and save money and gas. Hope this helps.Jesus is not concerned about religious rituals. He is concerned with your relationship with Him and if you are born again. He is all about souls not man made rituals. You can go to church everyday and still go straight to Hell. There is nothing that you do that gets you to Heaven it the blood of Jesus. If you are born again and fear and love the Lord with all your heart it will show in your life and work. It will all glorify Him and all will see it. God bless.

Forget about methodists (John Wesley didn't even wish to found a new denomination) and baptists. Follow Jesus. You can read about Him in the New Testament (and the Old, but you have to be more skillful in symbolism.)
