Is becoming atheist as a teenager a bad idea?

Hi, i'm a 16 year old sophomore in high school, and i recently became atheist after being Christian my entire life. I feel like religion is something humans could stand to live without, especially since religions often lack evidence (especially when it comes to god), reflect an outdated understanding of the world, are the cause of many wars, etc. So i'd like to know what you all think of becoming an atheist at such an early age. Do i have the life experience to make such a decision?

You can be anything you want to be, it truly does not matter.

I see religion as an outdated way of creating good morals and coping with death. Know our technology is unbelievable and I can see why many people are turning away from traditional religions and moving towards non organized religion or none at all.

If nobody ever told you about God, would you still be a Christian? Why would you deserve to go to hell because you never heard the message? This is essentially the message Christianity sends to countries that do not have much organized religion such as Ethiopia.

Make your own choice, you are never too old or young.

Well by the way you wrote the question I'd guess your acting 16. But, no, there is nothing wrong with the decision at 16. I made the decision at 12. After 20+ years I changed my decision. But, no one could have made me believe, forced me, or talked me into it. I had to get there myself. The end result is that I have incredibly solid faith and I know for sure that there is a God. Not sure I would have got there at 14, 17, 22 etc.. I had to get there on my own. All that said, God was patient and put a bunch of folks in my life to get me to where I needed to be when I was ready.

Good luck. Today is a special day. Google it.

You can 'decide' to do something one day, doesn't mean you won't change your mind again at some point. I'm in my 40's and I know several people that have changed religions to agnostic to another religion in their lives.

You could go back to christianity at some point, or another religion, or stay an atheist. So your answer is no, it's not a bad idea.

It's a bad idea to assume you'd be one your entire life, about the next 80 years.

It's not a bad idea, however, being Atheist from birth (as we all are) would be much better. But, better late then never. Well done.

It really isn't such an early age.

I changed to Atheism, and then Pantheism, when I was 13. No, there's nothing wrong with it. The hard part is going to be getting others (parents, friends, people at church) to accept this choice. I switched for the same reasons as you, and then started to see evidence of some sort of spirits or afterlife and I agree with Pantheist environmentalism, so I converted to Pantheism. Luckily for me, both my parents are secular Christians, so they didn't have a problem with me switching. If you have Christian parents, it might be a little harder to switch, because they will be mad and then try to convert you. That's what happened to my friend who tried to convert to Buddhism. He eventually did convert, though.

specific, I had a heart attack and died from an allergic reaction to between the medicine they gave me. in the previous this time i did no longer think of of god plenty one way or the different. and that i do no longer think of it grew to become into in my techniques after the reality. It wasn't till i grew to become into in ICU and a nurse got here up with the kind and asked what faith i grew to become into. I used to continuously say catholic by using fact it incredibly is how I grew up, yet this time while she asked i could no longer think of a greater ridiculous question so I pronounced atheist and as quickly as I pronounced it I felt ideal approximately it. I knew decrease than no longer something approximately atheism so i began out to locate it as quickly as I have been given out of the wellbeing facility. i found out i for my section am an atheist and that i've got been happier than i've got ever been in the previous.

I made the decision at 12 years old. Up until then I was attending church, bible study and other functions (of my mother's religion)... but at 12 years old I finished reading the Bible cover to cover ( for the second time) and declared my atheism. My mother cried... but she also understood why I made my choice.

It's never a bad idea to become atheist. Might be a bad idea to admit it when there's a bunch of violent zealots milling around, but being discrete isn't too hard.

no, its not a bad idea. the right idea is whatever works for you. so long as you dont push anything on other people.

i was raised atheist for the most part because of my dad. i am 33 and a pagan. because being pagan works for me. being atheist works for my dad.

follow your own path, and but let other people follow theirs.

God has done so much for us. I would never ever stop believing in the Holy Spirit and neither should you.
