Boy that is a high pressure question. Her Majesty the Queen is the descendant of Royal Families of Europe and was in Line to the Crown.
A Monarchy has it's drawbacks, but so does direct Democracy. Folks in England are content with their system, Americans are happy with theirs. Every one is happy.

The Queen basically pays for the UK government, among other things.

They don't, just figureheads that suck up money, but the Brits don't want to get rid of em cause they've been around for so long.
