Am I taking a huge risk by buying a Volvo C70 for 2k with 200,000 miles on the clock?

I've purchased on Ebay a 2003 Volvo C70 Auto convertible which has 208,000 miles on the clock. The winning price was £2,000.

For a car with this sort of mileage (although it is a Volvo) am I paying way over the odds and am I taking a huge risk or should I be ok for a couple of years? According to the Ebay details, everything seems to be ok..

Buying any car other than from a known and trusted garage is a risk. After speaking to my friend who sells Volvo's, and who I work for part time, says it could be ok if it has a full service history.

Best to get it checked out. The price we would ask for a similar vehicle would be around £1695 to £2850 depending on condition. A lower mileage vehicle in good condition with full service history could sell for around £2995, and would come with road tax.

Spares and repairs for Volvo's are seldom needed if the vehicle has been well maintained, but if they are needed can be very expensive.

Hope all is well with your Volvo, they are a very good and hardy car, and can cope with the mileage if well looked after.

    Hope this helps.

    Major gamble.

Theoretically a Volvo is good for a high mileage but at 200K you'd have to be pretty confident about its service history and how it's been treated, especially at £2000 which while a good price for a 2003 C70 cab is still a fair old chunk of change given there could be that much again needing spent on repairs.

It might be OK, but there are so many things at that mileage that could be wrong with it.

    Like everything.

Definitely a major gamble. A normal C70 of that age and only half the miles might be, just might be, worth that amount of money. I think you're taking a big risk but hopefully you'll be lucky because in all honesty they're nice cars. Good luck.

If it takes 30 000 miles to go around the world then think how many times this car could have driven around the earth......£2000 sounds a bit much but its your dosh!! Don't you have buyers rights to cancel the purchase or are you stuck with it.....might do you for a few years....who knows....

Not really as long as the car doesn't need fixing mileage is not a problem. Most car these days can easily do 200k as long as they are looked after.

Volvos appear to 'last for ever' but any car that has done 200K will start breaking down with greater regularity.

If its got a complete and honest service record you should be ok, but if things have been skipped you may have expensive surprises to come
