Floyd Mayweather vs. Victor Ortiz?
Schaefer says it's a possibility. I think Ortiz makes too many mistakes and Floyd would pot shot him to a wide UD. What are your thoughts on a Money vs. Ortiz fight? Would you be interested? I would!

I would have to agree with you Nepster, this would be a one-sided boxing lesson.
Ortiz would make things a bit difficult for Floyd, as he is a southpaw who is a pressure fighter. His style is similar to that of Jose Luis Castillo, who many felt beat Mayweather but was robbed. Imagine having to face a bigger, left-handed version of Castillo. That is Ortiz. However, much like his recent fights, I see Mayweather moving constantly and pot-shotting Ortiz to a wide 12 round decision victory. Mayweather will not be on the ropes where Ortiz can crown him the way Andre Berto was - he will be looking to jab, fire his right, slip punches, counter punch, lead with his right, you know, the things that make Floyd Mayweather, Floyd Mayweather.

maybe on a really bad night Ortiz would have a chance against Mayweather, but if it's the usual Mayweather then it would just be too easy for Mayweather. That's not underestimating Ortiz, I mean he was the underdog going into the fight with Berto but Berto himself was not a proven fighter yet. Ortiz was his biggest test and he failed. Mayweather is an elite
and financially, it wouldn't make much money compared to Mayweather's latest paydays. Ortiz is not a big attraction. Ortiz isn't a challenge for Mayweather so there is 0 possibility of this fight happening. If I'm wrong then Mayweather is either desperate or a complete moron. Mayweather's trial is now in September I read so he is pretty much retired until he makes his return to the ring which is most likely not anytime soon.
@nic: Timothy Bradley isn't a good choice either because he isn't that good, he isn't that big of an attraction either. He's just fast but other than that he sucks

It would be pretty entertaining. Ortiz may have some success early, but Floyd is way too good defensively for Ortiz and can take his punches. Ortiz left himself wide open for much of the Berto fight and Floyd would make him pay for that.
Floyd should win the fight by UD or maybe late TKO, probably UD. It would be an exciting fight

Why Victor Ortiz? Victor Ortiz lost to Maidana, who lost to Amir Khan. Why him? Does he need a tune-up fight? Why not undefeated prospect Timothy Bradley (where you can make more money)?
I don't know if Schaefer is blind or what? All this does is to give Floyd an "opportunity" to make money so that he (Floyd) can go on another vacation, if not. Pay the IRS and all the people who are suing him.
First, Amri Khan. Now Victor Ortiz. Who's next?

Consider it done, if Floyd is going to fight at all. It's very likely that he would fight Ortiz because there is no promotional chaos to deal with. Adding the WBC title would give him more bargaining power at the table with Pacquiao. It makes me wonder why a fight with Berto was never considered. Then again, Ortiz is more marketable than Berto, especially now that he defeated Berto.
It's an attractive fight for Floyd because of the contrast in styles. People love the "Boxer vs Brawler" match up. But I think people are beginning to toot Ortiz' horn a little too loudly if they think he can beat Mayweather. Don't be fooled by this lay-off business because only a fool would think that Floyd would allow himself to come in anywhere less than top shape. Look at the Marquez fight. He was out for a while before that fight too. You don't come in in that kind of shape if you're inactive. Believe me. Floyd is in training. It's what he does best. Have you ever seen him in less than top shape?
I'm pretty sure Floyd would be ready for Victor Ortiz. It will be a good fight and, naturally, I can see it going the distance. However, I don't see Floyd having too much trouble with Ortiz. It's almost crazy for this fight not to happen. It benefits both fighters because, unless he fights Pacquiao, Ortiz won't make nearly as much money as he would fighting anyone else besides Mayweather.
For Mayweather, it's a piece of the title --which really means nothing to him-- and a bargaining chip for a fight with Pacquiao, which I'm beginning to believe is a little closer to happening.
As far as Mayweather's legal issues go, I wouldn't worry too much about that. Sure there are those who want to do an "ALI" on him --cost him "time", which is very valuable to world class athletes. However, his "babymamma" is stupid if she doesn't do what she can to help these charges "go away". Sure, they threaten him with jail time. That's the new thing in America. Certain people are targeted for this sort of thing and Mayweather just placed himself in that group. But, money talks and someone will see that Mayweather does no jail time, nor should he.
Sure, Floyd is arrogant, cocky, annoying, mouthy, tactless, you name it. But he took back an Ipod --stupid-- from his kid and smacked his babymamma and poked an annoying security guard. Those things can land normal people in jail. People with money don't go to jail for things like that, because everybody --including the prosecutors-- will lose.
Look for Mayweather vs Ortiz sometime in Sept.
I'm guessing that Pacquiao vs Mayweather will happen in January 2012. It's about 3.5 years too late but that's the business of boxing.

I think it would be the perfect fight for Floyd before taking on Pacquiao.Ortiz is a fast young powerful south paw and i see this is great preparation for a potential fight with Pacquiao.I don't mean to be disrespectful to ortiz because he's a very good fighter but he has no chance of beating Floyd. Also if Floyd was to win the WBC title then that would be good ammunition to have at the negotiating table for the Pacquiao fight.

Ortiz shouldn't take this fight. He is young, and a new Champion, unless he wants to get knocked out and humiliated much like Hatton, he should not fight Mayweather or Pacquiao for that matter.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. fighting anybody is an indication and admission that he is scared of Manny Pacquiao. A fighter of his caliber doesn't need any tune up fight. If ever he needs one, it is just an alibi for his refusal to be in the ring with Manny. He should cut the crap and fight Pacquiao or retire.
