How Much Was My Harry Potter Collection Worth?
I owned all seven Harry Potter books (First editions!!) and my house burned down. Now, I need to know how much they were worth, for insurance and whatnot. Can y'all tell me that? Seven. First. Editions. This situation really sucks. Make it suck less, will ya? How much were my books worth?

You go to ebay, and see how much they're selling for. Or even half.com.
Just to let you know, that first edition, brand new, of the first book, is selling on half.com for a price range of $3.50 to $9. The last is selling, brand new, $8 to $9.50. That probably puts the value of your USED, read collection, fairly, around $40. Yep, I know you paid a lot more than that for them. But NOW, they're selling brand new, first editions, never read, perfection condition, a heck of a lot cheaper.
Sorry. I think that sucks more.

Probably very little. First editions can be of great value only if they were either very old (not of the Harry Potter books are) or very rare. Because of the extreme popularity of the Harry Potter books, especially after the first of the movies was released, the publisher would have printed too many first editions of each book for any of them to be very valuable.

Oh child, I feel your pain -- my house burned down last year. What we ended up doing was getting a lot of prices off e-bay. Your books, while precious to you, will not be so precious to the insurance company.
