What happens when a person with a hyphenated last name gets married?
My friend has a hyphenated last name and I'm wondering when he gets married what would the girls last name become. Like if the girl wanted to take his last name would she take the full hyphenated last name or just one of them?

Say his name is Smith-Jones and hers is Clark.
She can continue with her name Ms. Clark.
Or
Mrs Smith-Jones-Clark
Mrs Smith
Mrs Jones
Mrs Jones Clark
Mrs Smith Clark
Mrs Clark Smith Jones
You get the point.
There is a space on the marriage certificate that shows what her married name will be. She and her fiancée will fill that out.

The person's last name becomes whatever he/she wants it to become, the same as if he/she DIDN'T have a hyphenated last name.

while a woman marries a guy, the alternative is to the two take his final call as hers or hyphenate her maiden call along with his. normally, you could nonetheless use his final call for the youngsters. the assumption of the alternative says lots. If the relationship does no longer artwork out, you could consistently tell the courts you like your maiden call back.

She will do whatever she wants. She can take his full last name, keep her old name or make a new one. Maybe both he and she will create a new name together.
