that would probably depend upon whether she is christian or muslim. the muslim tradition would be to "hide the engagement but celebrate the marriage".
the christian tradtion would include a dowery from the bride's family for the couple, but some have the bride receiving an engagement ring.
why don't you just ask her or her father what is the acceptable tradition in their particular family.
