Trickle charger chatters and turns on and off when I try to charge lawn mower battery?
I have cleaned the contacts and when I hook it up it turns on for a few seconds and chatters, the indicator light blinks rapidly on and off and then turns off. Is the battery bad or is the trickle charger bad. Thank you for your help. Oh, I forgot to say it is a 1 or 2 amp charger.

Trickle chargers are designed to charge slowly over night. I would check the battery for proper fluid levels. Don't over fill if it needs more distilled water (tap water will work). It sounds like the charger is working properly, no worries. Wait couple hours after letting it charge the battery.

A cell in the battery has probably shorted.
(Sometimes I hate to ask the obvious, people get offended so easily, but do the voltage of the battery and charger match?)
