To clear a few things up.

if a pixel is dead then it is not working and never will, it is a manufacturing defect and not repairable.

because it is a fault in manufacturing it is most unlikely this issue will affect any other pixel.

Manufacturers are permitted under international treaties and agreements to supply new equipment with up to 3 dead pixels, it is an accepted industry standard.

Because it is just one pixel, and under the agreed standards, the manufacturer is not obliged under the warranty to replace the screen.

You can ask of course and many will exchange it, but legally they are not obliged to so you have to be prepared for that, there is no harm in trying.

    1. Your current dead pixel will not 'spread' to make things worse - it will stay the same.

    2. A dead pixel is one that cannot be repaired - you will know if it's dead because it will always remain unlit (most likely due to a manufacturing fault). This is different to 'stuck' pixels that remain lit in a specific colour (occasionally these are repairable).

    2. Over time you can develop dead/stuck pixels through no fault of your own - it's just the limitations of the technology involved.

    3. Contrary to what most people say or think - LCD manufacturers are not obliged to replace any item with less than x number of dead pixels. More information on this can be found by looking up 'ISO-13406-2'

    4. You can still 'try your luck' by contacting the company you bought the LCD from and having a word with them - maybe even comment on their 'customer services' to gain a more favourable outcome for yourself - if that fails, bypass them and go straight to the manufacturer and see what you can convince them to do for you.

I've got one dead pixel on my 17" laptop screen. At first I kept noticing it but after a couple of weeks I forgot all about it and didn't notice it at all.

Will you get more dead pixels? No.

I can live with one dead pixel, but if it bothers you, go and get your monitor exchanged.

It is quite normal to have a few dead pixels on a lcd.

Screens are graded according to how many and where they are.

I suggest you to get your LCD monitor changed as it's a new monitor and should be under the warranty. You shouldn't have any dead pixel on your new monitor.

ignore h00k00 he's likely a yank with no idea about selling regulations here.

inform them of your intent to return it within 14days and theres nothing the person you bought it from can do other than breaking the law or accepting it back with a full refund.
