How do dancers maintain their posture during the day?

Do they think about something constantly or is it from years of practice? And either way, what do they think about or what exercises or visualizations did they use while training?

Some inexperienced dancers may consciously think about it, other do it because it has been ingrained into them through years of training. They probably don't think about what exercises they did to get the posture. They are probably thinking of their routines and how to perfect them.

What I have been taught is to stand straight and imagine there is a string attached to the top of your head - this string is holding you up. your posture falls into place then.

and after just a few weeks of using this technique you'll find you do it automatically.
