Birth Control Shot for Men?
Pretty soon there will be a birth control shot out there for men! It even seems to have less side-effects that the female birth control pill (which is a great plus, as some women can't even take the pill due to said side-effects). Gentlemen, would you take this pill when its available? Ladies, how do you feel about this?
Personally, I think its a wonderful way to give men more control and options of birth control. But do you think this will increase the possibility of STDs, as some men might wear condoms less if they're less worried about pregnancy?

I'd like it if me and my boyfriend were BOTH on birth control, and I'm okay with him not wearing a condom if this were the case because we're the only people we're that intimate with, so it's not a problem to me.
But yeah, I think men would rather be on the pill than use condoms, and this could pose many problems as far as STDs are concerned. The main thing is people need to be smarter about who they are sleeping around with. People these days screw at the drop of a hat... Get your facts straight on each other so you are more safe, and use a condom every time.

I would absolutely take it! (Provided on a few things, such as it being reasonable, affordable, etc).
I would not like to be one of the first to try it, however. While I like the idea of fewer complications, as it is with many things, I would like to see what the side effects REALLY are before getting in line. There are many medications I won't take because of the known side-effects and possible complications.
While some men, who sleep around, may not wear condoms if this were available, probably most of those irresponsible men aren't wearing condoms now, anyway, so I doubt this will be a big change.
This sounds like a great idea but until we know more, I find mr. snip-snip to be the better solution for men who no longer are interested in fathering children.
P.S. It amazes me what some of the men are writing, here, about not feeling any sense of responsibility. I'd like to think they're just trolling, but I'm not sure that's all of it.

I find it interesting that the first place I read about a birth control option for men, is on a women's form.
Anyway HELL YES!!!
They have control, there are no excuses, no bull ****, plain and simple.
The problem is, how viable is "Hey babe, don't worry, I take the shot"
If there was proof of purchase/ injection. Then the whole condom issue is out the door.

God no. I would never never be the first in line to get some corporate concocted fluid injected into my body.. Even so, no I would not be the one taking birth control.
"But do you think this will increase the possibility of STDs, as some men might wear condoms less if they're less worried about pregnancy?"
No. Most people are smart enough to know female brith control is not a protector from HIV, I'm sure they'd apply the same logic to male BC.
**EDIT: didn't read the article before.. haha. Testosterone injections are not pleasant. They destroy your body's natural ability to produce testosterone. After a cycle of steroids for example one has to take an anti-aromatase just to lower the levels of his estrogen in his body and to get his testes working properly. I would NOT go through that again. And I'm sure when most men educate themselves on the dangers of introducing foreign testosterone into their body, they won't either. Low-T is one thing.. but for those who don't have it (like me) the side effects aren't good.. Apart from gynocomastia, mood swings, higher ammounts of female hormone.. it can also make a man sterile permanently.
Take the pill, ladies.

Make up your mind. Is it a shot (injection) or a pill? If it were a frequent injection, then I probably wouldn't consider it. It's less convenient and I have an aversion to sticking needles into myself. If it were a pill, I'd certainly discuss the option with my wife.
However, some of the side-effects of female birth control pills are considered beneficial. Some women use birth control pills even if they're not conducting any form of sexual activity - just because they want the side effects. Depending on whether they're on the progesterone only pill, or the combined one, those side effects might include lighter (or even totally absent) periods, less period pain, reduced risk of some cancers (though increased risk of some other cancers - these roughly cancel out), less acne, decreased risk of anaemia and reduced blood pressure.
So there are probably plenty of women who would not want to give up their pills even if their partner were taking contraceptives.

Call me cynical, but I also think this is a golden opportunity for males to *claim* they had the shot, who never did, just to get out of wearing condoms...

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
I'd take it once men have reproductive equality, IE, the right to insist upon abortion of any fetus he is responsible for.
Until then, pregnancy is 100% the woman's responsibility, 100% of the time.

There will be an element who will lie in order to get his partner pregnant and so to control her. Who are we kidding here?
