Hello
I think we need a new disk drive on our computer (desktop computer) it doesnt open, we need a pin to open it, and it also then dont pick up any cds inside. nothing loads. i just want to make it easier and get a brand new one, just a basic disk drive for our pc.
How much would one cost roughly in a local computer repair shop roughly would most people say? and to also install it all and fix it up for us in the shop?

you would probably need a IDE type drive as they was most common on older PCs. easy way to tell is to open up the PC and look at the cable, if the cable is about 2 inches wide its an IDE, if the cable is only about ½ inch wide, its a SATA type.

A new cd drive not much about 25-35 dollars usd, this is a do-it-yourselfer project, unplug the pc open up the side panel if the otherside panel has screws take off that side ,locate the cd drive it should have two or four screws holding it in place, take loose the connectors take loose the screws slide it out ,slide in the new one, align the screw holes, screw it back inplace ,put back the connectors and the side panels replug and restart, windows will load the drivers for it. you also can download the service manuals at the manufacture support website of how to do it as well

It all depends on the make and model, speed, whether it's a reader or reader writer, internal or external (usb). You could spend anything from £20 (basic internal cd player) to £200 (external blu-ray). You can get them from anywhere, amazon, PC world, ebay... They are easy enough to install yourself rather than going to your local PC repair place.
