Buying beer and wine in Canada?

Is it true that aside for Ontario wineries being each allowed to have sales kiosks at a couple of supermarkets the only province where one can buy beer and wine generally at food markets, convenience stores and some gas stations, like in many of the USA states and in Europe, is Quebec??

There are many, many, many places in Northern Ontario, where you can purchase alcohol in gas stations, grocery stores, convenience stores and the like.....but they are licensed by the province and still operate under the LCBO. That means they keep the same hours.....and one cannot go into one and purchase alcohol at 8am or 12am, as the cabinets/refrigerators holding the alcohol are locked.

Source(s): Life in Northern Ontario, bought wine at McPherson's General Store/Gas Station many times.

    Buying Beer In Canada

Yes, it's true. I think maybe Newfoundland allows beer and wine sales in grocery stores too. Otherwise, you go to a government liquor outlet or a cold beer and wine store. There are also wine stores in some places. You won't find wine in the aisle next to the potato chips in Canadian supermarkets. Now, in many smaller places, like where I live, the government liquor outlet is at my local gas station/convenience store, so I can walk in there after gassing up and buy any kind of alcohol including hard liquor. Half an hour's drive away in the nearest town, I can't do that.

In New Brunswick you can buy beer, wine and spirits in some convenience stores or small country stores-usually these are located away from larger towns that have Provincial Liquor Stores (run by government)-but the good thing is they are open more hours/day and are open on provincial/statutory holidays whereas gov't stores are not.

Smaller communities in BC allow sales of spirits in retail stores as well. Generally the proprietor of the store is licensed to act as an agent for the BC Liquor Control Branch.

Yep, you got it. Some other provinces allow for beer sales in grocery stores in remote areas but by and large Quebec is pretty much the leader in booze sales to get drunk quick and easy.
