Do what you feel most comfortable with. I found my son without searching through Genes Reunited and contacted him without thinking it through first. I don't regret finding him plus he was searching anyway but I do regret not doing things differently when I first contacted him.

If you are weirded out by it at all I say stick to the system. There is a reason it is there, to protect people. I'm not saying it aways works or is always the best thing but you need to be as comfortable as possible when you meet them. It is already going to be hard enough as it is without the added stress and discomfort.
